"If you look at a solar farm, you lay down all this steel and put up all this framing for the panels. When that panel was the most expensive thing on the field, then [startups producing solar panels] made sense." "But solar panels are now the cheapest thing in the field. If you look at the cost of solar power five years ago, 10 years ago, or 20 years ago, it would have seemed cost-prohibitive. But the cost of solar power today is extremely low. The cost of batteries to store that energy has also dropped dramatically. Battery storage costs have fallen by a factor of 10 in the past five years. So many of the studies that were done were done in times past, when batteries were very expensive and solar power was very expensive. I would just encourage everyone to take another look at the cost of solar and the cost of batteries. I think you’ll find that you’re pleasantly surprised. Elon Musk

Spencer Pratt drags Bill Maher out of his liberal bubble and brought him back down to earth. Maher was annoyed that Pratt didn’t know the specifics about taxes on solar powered energy, but Pratt humbled him with the REAL problems Angelenos care about. MAHER: “This is a state that is constantly overthinking everything, and over regulating everything.” “Trust me, I know. I did whole bits about how it took me three years to get the solar turned on.” “Solar! The solar tax credit cliff is coming. But as prices rise, the economics of solar are still moving the right way, for those businesses that can reduce costs and survive. Bret Biggart of Freedom Solar Power told me: “If you can make it through these next challenges, the horse has left the stable for solar.” Even with federal tax credits expiring, the underlying math still works. Because when you strip it down, solar economics hinge on two numbers: ⚡ Cost to install per watt ⚡ Price of electricity If installation costs keep trending down and power prices keep trending up, the curve favors solar, especially in sunny Texas. ✅ Short-term: panels and components are pricier due to inflation, tariffs, etc. and margins are tight. ✅ Medium-term: power costs increase from IRA repeal and continued tariffs, inflation, etc., competition and innovation force solar costs down. ✅ Long-term: solar grows even faster. The transition won’t be painless. But as Bret put it, those who endure the “last punch in the face” will be standing in a stronger industry.
