Despite the hundreds of billions of dollars being spent on net zero, wind and solar does not even produce 5% of the energy Australia needs. You can’t power an advanced, 21st century economy like Australia’s on unreliable and expensive renewables. It is time to dump net zero:

If you look at the cost of solar power five years ago, 10 years ago, or 20 years ago, it would have seemed cost-prohibitive. But the cost of solar power today is extremely low. The cost of batteries to store that energy has also dropped dramatically. Battery storage costs have fallen by a factor of 10 in the past five years. So many of the studies that were done were done in times past, when batteries were very expensive and solar power was very expensive. I would just encourage everyone to take another look at the cost of solar and the cost of batteries. I think you’ll find that you’re pleasantly surprised. Elon Musk

Albanese has no mandate for Net Zero, for he won the election through deception. Albanese deceived Australians about the cost of Net Zero. He lied by claiming that under Net Zero, electricity prices would be cheaper, when in fact, Net Zero is causing electricity prices to skyrocket. There should be a national plebiscite on Net Zero after an honest debate about its true costs. Intermittent renewables are to an electricity grid what COVID injections are to the human body—the more you put into the system, the greater the damage you do.

Solar and wind are sold as cheaper than coal, gas or nuclear using a number called LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy). But LCOE is a junk metric. It pretends that one-megawatt-hour of intermittent power is the same as one-megawatt-hour of reliable power. It isn't. When the sun doesn't shine or the wind doesn't blow, you still need electricity. So backup plants (coal, gas or nuclear) must run in the background, ready to fire instantly. LCOE fails to count that cost. It also ignores the miles of transmission lines for remote wind farms, the giant storage systems to cover lulls, the stabilizers to keep frequency steady, and the massive overbuild needed just to survive bad weather weeks.These hidden costs explode as wind and solar take over more of the grid. On paper, LCOE makes these renewables look cheap. In reality, they drive up costs system-wide. That's why nations with the most wind and solar have the highest electricity prices. LCOE isn't just misleading, it's a lie.

It is reliable, dispatchable, and produces virtually no CO2 - yet many environmental groups oppose new dams. The same contradiction appears with nuclear power. Nuclear produces zero operational CO2, runs 24 hours a day, and uses far less land than wind or solar. If cutting emissions were truly the priority here, the focus would be obvious: Hydropower and nuclear, not endless wind and solar expansion.

Yesterday in South Australia, the wind stopped blowing and the state nearly ran out of power. Prices spiked to the maximum cap under law, and it would have cost someone in Adelaide nearly $5 just to boil a kettle. This is our future under the net-zero delusion, blackouts and unaffordable power bills. South Australia was meant to be the example for the rest of Australia to follow on wind and solar, how's that working out? It's time to ditch the net-zero nonsense, build coal and nuclear and bring down the cost of living for Australians.

John points out that people often confuse the cost of panels with the cost of power. "A solar panel doesn't get you what you want. You want electrons at the location that load is at." But delivering electricity requires land, labor, transmission, and capital, all of which are inflationary.

Average demand is less than 23 GW. The growth of solar, wind, and batteries has helped eliminate 62 percent of all fossil gas use on the grid in 2026 versus 2023. Strikingly, those batteries can now meet three-quarters of average demand and 44 percent of peak demand for four hours every day. What is more, wind-water-solar renewables have met more than 100 percent of grid demand for 100 of the last 101 days and for 87 percent of all days in 2026, for an average of 5.4 hours per day. Given the low cost of batteries, solar, and wind relative to the price of electricity, it is abundantly clear that no major barrier remains to eliminating fossil gas for electricity entirely in California, but also ultimately throughout the world.
