I think objectively Solo Leveling deserved the win because it pleases to masses. It is such eye candy and was over all satisfying to watch. Frieren is very niche. I personally loved it so much, made me reflect on a lot. But yeah these award shows should be taken with a grain of salt.

Of course solo leveling won. It was endorsed by Crunchyroll - The site that hosted the anime awards. It's a well done power fantasy, but they also had a vested interest in its success and promoted the hell out of it.

Frieren isn’t about fights; it’s about the quiet moments before, after, and in between. Solo Leveling has great animation and power fantasy, but it will never grow with me. Frieren feels timeless. I could rewatch season one for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.

this fight is mid af — most fights in frieren suck — and the axe guy is a terribly mid character — the only good show in recent memory with actual good fights is mushoku season 1 (season 2 isn’t worth talking about) — solo leveling sucks too but the aura farm is peak

SL just gives you cheap dopamine, which leads you to enjoy the experience, but without any substance. Frieren has got even more layered, well-written characters, fights, and scenes that are meaningful and filled with symbolism. SL is just power fantasy and like any other shonen
