Tony on TV in America. When Tony made his ‘once in a lifetime’ trip to the US a few weeks ago he was so well looked after and, some of his trip was filmed by a station called Nine PBS - based in St. Louis. They were kind enough to send over the piece that they made and I was able to play it to Tony when we got together recently. It was hard for him to watch but it was beautifully. My friend Ben has put this together and, if you’d like to watch the whole piece here Some of the comments on there are amazing. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Have a great day.

Watch who gets defensive, who makes it about ‘her tone’ and who completely misses the point because they’re too busy protecting their ego to hear what’s actually being said. That reaction is the diagnosis. It’s normal to feel stung when something lands close. A mature person feels that sting, pauses and asks whether it’s true. An immature one goes straight to war with the person who said it. And when a woman says it, the defensiveness spikes even higher. Because now it’s not just a hard truth. It’s a hard truth from someone who was supposed to manage his comfort. Feeling stung is not the same as being wronged. Someone telling you the truth did not injure you. Your resistance to it did. Now, is she perfect? No. Is she going to deliver everything with grace every time? Also no. Let’s just assume she’s acting in good faith and doing her best. But a man who can only hear scolding when feedback is packaged correctly isn’t asking for respect. He’s asking for a handler. I see this in my work too.
