Someone built a tool that converts your entire codebase into a graph database. Instead of dumping code into LLMs, AI can navigate functions, classes, and dependencies like a map. It's called CodeGraphContext.

that's just moving the complexity from code to graph query optimization, the overhead doesn't disappear it just changes form

Converting your codebase into a graph database so AI can understand it. The AI after seeing the graph:

this is way closer to actual retrieval than stuffing a repo into context and praying. for bigger codebases that’s a pretty different mode of work

thats how all CLI agents navige code base by default no?

I built something like this myself yesterday:

This is cool! We're using KG's too, but with additional memory/context/search tools for org-wide context. Think 1000s of agents, org wide, not just a handful locally. - repo open soon.

How does it handle circular dependencies and deeply nested inheritance chains? Those are usually where traditional static analysis tools start choking on complex codebases.

ngl the graph approach is so much better than just dumping files into context. when the model can actually trace call chains and dependency paths it catches things flat context completely misses

interesting! Wonder if this actually works better

Graph context will matter most when symbols are stale. Are you tracking retrieval hit rate and token savings versus plain repo dumps?

just use an lsp and save yourself the headache. this thing will likely be burning tokens crazy fast.

a repo is already a graph (tree)

Brilliant tool. CodeGraphContext turning a codebase into a navigable graph lets AI explore functions and dependencies efficiently, and you explained it clearly.

LLMs read code line by line. Graphs let them understand how the code actually connects.

A structurally pragmatic evolution in code→LLM pipelines: Raw code dump → LLM context forces O(N²) attention to blindly compute topology. Better: Parse to AST → DAG first → offload spatial reasoning to deterministic graph DB. Trade-off: Swap token exhaustion for graph traversal latency. Great for enterprise static analysis, but live refactoring? Real-time edge sync becomes the true bottleneck. High-signal move nonetheless.

If CodeGraphContext scales, it could replace half the prompt-engineering tools by 2025.

Finally, someone treated codebases like the complex networks they actually are. No more 'dump and pray' with LLMs! 🔥

Interesting idea, but it won’t represent cases where the function to call is determined at runtime.

How does it work with parameters? Parameters that give context. Promises that determine what is called. They would majorly change the graph I would assume. ??

Representing code as a graph database aligns with how neural networks map relational dependencies. It is the end of the linear data dump.

This is cool, but does it actually translate to better LLM performance?

THIS MIGHT BE THE #1 OPEN-SOURCE REPO FOR CLAUDE CODE RIGHT NOW. IT GIVES CLAUDE A MEMORY AND SLASHES YOUR TOKEN COST ON EVERY QUESTION The repo is safishamsi/graphify, a free open-source skill that turns any codebase into a knowledge graph Claude Code can read instantly. Instead of grepping through your files every session, Claude gets a map of how everything connects The problem it fixes: Every time you ask Claude Code about a big repo, it does the same thing, greps through dozens of files like a brute-force Ctrl+F, blows through your context window, and sometimes still misses the answer hiding in a file nobody searched. Claude Code has no memory of how your project is structured. Every session starts from zero What it does: It maps your entire codebase into a knowledge graph, capturing not just which files exist, but which functions depend on which, which modules are central, and which files cluster around the same concern. Claude queries the map instead of scanning files How it works, three passes: 1. Code structure, free and local. Tree-sitter parses your files and pulls out classes, functions, imports and call graphs. No LLM, no tokens, just your actual code mapped deterministically 2. Audio and video, if you have them. Transcribed locally and folded into the graph 3. Docs, papers, images. Here an LLM does semantic analysis, figuring out what each document means and where it fits. Only the meaning gets sent up, never your raw source It saves you money: Normally a question about a big repo makes Claude spawn explore agents that scan file after file, eating your context window and your token budget before you get an answer. With the graph already built, Claude queries the map instead of re-reading the codebase every time. Same answer, a fraction of the tokens. The graph only gets built once, then a hook rebuilds it after each commit for free, so you never pay that scanning cost again. The bigger the repo, the bigger the gap The best parts: it's a skill, so once installed Claude knows when to use it without you memorizing commands. It works on non-code folders too, point it at docs or notes and it can spin up an Obsidian vault How to add it to your Claude: 1. Install Claude Code if you haven't: npm install -g Paul Jankura-ai/claude-code 2. Add the skill: claude skill add safishamsi/graphify 3. Open your project folder and run /graphify . to build the graph 4. Optional, make it automatic: graphify hook install so the graph rebuilds after every commit That's it. Ask Claude about your repo and it reads the map instead of burning tokens on a file hunt Bookmark this
