A permit would have been required to carry out the dredging of the #ChalkStream 🧐was one given @EnvAgencyAnglia & if not why didn’t you force them to repair the damage ? Today compared to 2 years ago & zero water. @Feargal_Sharkey

@EnvAgencyAnglia People are fucking clueless. Someone will have had a nice warm glow from planting trees, because tree planting is everything these days. Looking after what you’ve already got doesn’t pay and isn’t PR.

@EnvAgencyAnglia I did a rough calculation & believe there’s at least 20,000 🌳planted here 🧐how much has this cost & who has paid for it ? @DefraGovUK @NaturalEngland

@NorfolkHeritage @EnvAgencyAnglia I’m more than annoyed, I’m livid. Who’s bright idea was this and why were they allowed to carry it out? So bloody depressing @EnvAgencyAnglia

I am just a layman with a passion for nature . I walk a SSSI once a week (Frays Valley) and have only caught a glimpse of a water vole twice . They have an evasive reputation in my catchment . What has happened in terms of your 'chalk-ditch' just looks wrong and where is the joined-up thinking ? If that is supposed to be water vole habitat , what are the voles supposed to eat ? Also : No canopy = no shelter from predators .

@EnvAgencyAnglia Water Voles are one of our most endangered species and require protection from predators 🧐Riparian plants provide food and shelter but are constantly being threatened by over enthusiastic stream & river management

It has been drummed into me that water voles need to spend a fair percentage of their day , just eating to survive . I see munched stems and hear of the various finds that surveyors see in terms of latrines etc , yet I only ever see the back end of them . Followed by that 'plip' sound . In channel vegetation , canopy , bankside vegetation . That balance , exactly what you suggest along with zero mink in the area :)

Faize wood 🙄who decided on the name ? Arabic meaning Successful Victorious or Triumphant 🤷‍♂️in the real world this is a total embarrassment & certainly isn’t Successful. Guessing some consultant was paid thousands of 💷to come up with this 💩 RESTORE THE CHALK STREAM

Left alone the destroyed #ChalkStream (which has zero flood risk) would soon recover especially if a restoration project was carried out to raise it’s stream bed or better still to re-meander it through the newly planted woodland

@EnvAgencyAnglia Like grasslands, so many streams have been 'improved' to make them unrecognisable and now they just appear like manmade drainage channels. Which helps to justify dredging them when winter brings water back to the countryside. Rinse & repeat.

@EnvAgencyAnglia The EA appears to be in the process of doing work on the River Tat, nearby... you might like to check it out...

@EnvAgencyAnglia Can only find this from 20th February but it the planned work doesn’t get up to East Rudham & even the EA wouldn’t have condoned this behaviour. Still a good opportunity for someone to repair it @N_Rivers_Trust @NENorfolkSufflk ?

@EnvAgencyAnglia Hmwb now and exempt from good status. It's a strategy condoned by the EA and Defra

@EnvAgencyAnglia This really illustrates the dangers of politically motivated ecological restoration without the necessary biological and ecological expertise. There are no shortcuts!

@EnvAgencyAnglia Who would do this? Why? It's upsetting to see water vole habitat destroyed like this.
