The Data Behind the Double. In a 3-2, 2 out, game deciding moment, Trace Mazon delivered a 2 RBI double that ended up winning the game. Similar pitches in that location end in a whiff or foul ball on 82% of swings. Trace flattened out his vertical attack angle and bat angle (VBA) to get on plane, producing true spin at a 1:26 axis, with near 100% efficiency, and just 1024 RPM off the bat. This allows for true ball flight down the line, allowing the ball to stay true with carry, not slicing towards foul territory.

And here is the second Oneil Cruz play from today's Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets game, and on this one (on the next pitch), Cruz loses the ball in the sun, and there is a large provision in the OS Scoring Manual on "Sun and Slips", and you don't penalize a fielder for losing the ball in the sun on a ball that is hit. Interestingly, a fielder doesn't get sun/slip protection on a throw, just a ball that is hit, so this was correctly ruled a double. #LetsGoBucs #LGM

DO YOU HAVE THE MOTOR TO BE THE BEST PLAYER? Players underestimate how hard it is to be the best player on a team or on the floor every night. To go out and score the ball while impacting the game in multiple ways takes alot of energy, effort, and resilience. Then, to go out and do that consistently on a night in and night out basis is even harder.

Corbin Carroll led MLB in ideal attack angle with 68.4% in 2025. That's the % of swings with an attack angle between 5 and 20 degrees (optimal for line drives and hard contact). Not to be confused with launch angle, which is the angle the ball takes off the bat. The whole "round ball, round bat" concept makes that tougher to control. Croatia was kicked out of the match because Matanic touched the ball with his hair AND the referee had to decide if Viega’s contact with the ball is considered “deliberate play”. If yes, the goal was correct, but the referee decided “no”. But what are the rules saying? In FIFA and IFAB Laws of the Game, deliberate play is when a player has control of the ball and attempts to pass, gain possession, or clear it. *‘Deliberate play’ (excluding deliberate handball) is when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of: •passing the ball to a team-mate; •gaining possession of the ball; or •clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it) ➡️clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it) And that’s what Viega did. This umpire gave this kid and his team two warnings for throwing the bat at the catcher. He told them if it happened again they were going to get ejected from the game. Well….it happened again. The batter hit the ball back to the pitcher and the pitcher overthrew first base. But, the umpire called a dead ball and called the batter out and ejected him from the game. The coach came out to argue and said the batter didn’t throw the bat, that it was a regular follow through on the back swing. He told the umpire they had it on film. The umpire said he had it on film too. Then the third base coach came down to argue and the umpire told the coach he was wrong and that he had it on video. You can hear the parents screaming at him. Some people said that was a terrible call and he let go legally on the follow through. You can also hear them tell the umpire that he had it out for that kid. 🤯 But a lot of people sided with the ump and said he handled it well and with that many warnings that it was a fantastic call. 💯 The umpire gave the same kid two prior warnings. Even if it wasn’t intentional, there has to be consequences after a third time. He could seriously injure the catcher. This will help the batter in the future hopefully. What do you think? Was this the right or wrong call?
