Behind the ball is how you get depth AND length out front. (Not one or the other) Here’s what it actually gives you: 1. You swing more connected and deeper. 2. The barrel enters earlier and stays in longer. You get both. 3. Depth behind what buys you length out front. Most guys are picking one or the other. 4. You sling the barrel through. You’re not shoving it or yanking it into the zone. 5. You actually use the ground. Behind the ball you turn. This umpire gave this kid and his team two warnings for throwing the bat at the catcher. He told them if it happened again they were going to get ejected from the game. Well….it happened again. The batter hit the ball back to the pitcher and the pitcher overthrew first base. But, the umpire called a dead ball and called the batter out and ejected him from the game. The coach came out to argue and said the batter didn’t throw the bat, that it was a regular follow through on the back swing. He told the umpire they had it on film. The umpire said he had it on film too. Then the third base coach came down to argue and the umpire told the coach he was wrong and that he had it on video. You can hear the parents screaming at him. Some people said that was a terrible call and he let go legally on the follow through. You can also hear them tell the umpire that he had it out for that kid. 🤯 But a lot of people sided with the ump and said he handled it well and with that many warnings that it was a fantastic call. 💯 The umpire gave the same kid two prior warnings. Even if it wasn’t intentional, there has to be consequences after a third time. He could seriously injure the catcher. This will help the batter in the future hopefully. What do you think? Introducing the “Get” action in basketball to lacrosse! The “Get” is a 2man action where a player passes the ball to another player and sprints to go “Get” it back on a handoff. This action has similar concepts and reads to pick and roll, but the picker is actually the ball handler! In lacrosse, we have been experimenting with Gets because it creates so many interesting situations and reads for the players. The way we teach it in small sided games is to have one offensive player declare “I’m shut” and the defense has to face-guard him. From there we pick for the shut off player trying to spring them free for the Get. The ball handler has to engage and control their defender, anticipating the shut player trying to get open. The shut player can backdoor if being overplayed towards the get (rejecting the get), receive a flip, or continue curling around the ball getting open for a late pass. The ball handler can feed the reject, flip the ball, or fake the flip to attack the goal or make a late pass to the shut payer curling to the goal. I’ve seen examples of this run in men’s and women’s DI lacrosse at Ohio State and Northwestern, respectively and I’ve run this myself when I was coaching HS girls lacrosse. You will also see on this reel a sick application for Gets vs. a common big-little invert coverage where the short stick doesn’t go behind with his man and plays “Safety” in front of the net. Gets are fun for the players, are incredible for teaching your players 2man game on and off ball, dealing with double teams, and creativity with passing, and can be used to score goals. He puts his phone away 2 hours before the game and doesn’t check it for a while after the game either. This should be a non-negotiable for ALL athletes and something they all should implement into their pre-game and post-game routines. Nothing leads to more mental fatigue, and zaps energy and being in the moment as much as the phone. 2. True belief in yourself and your team is a POWERFUL thing. Another day, another baseball game and another coach losing his mind. 🤦‍♂️ It’s the bottom of the last inning, there’s two outs and runners on first and second base. The pitcher throws a wild pitch. The ball skips away and bounces off a bat the umpire said. If it hit an on deck bat near the dugout, it is a dead ball and the runners advance. You can’t see the play and the coach argues that it hit the dugout pole and not a bat. (Guess he had a better angle from the third base dugout).😳 The umpires meet and at first they tell the runners to go back to where they were. But they continue talking and then say the runners advance. 🤯 The coach was ejected. 💯 The game ended in a tie when a play at the plate on another wild pitch but the runner being called out at home. This was the beginning of a tournament and you can hear one of the parents tell the coach to calm down as they have the rest of the tournament ahead. Not sure what gets into these coaches but no amount of arguing is changing a call. Let it go and just let the young men play. Do you think something needs to be done about these coaches and the way they are acting and the words spewing out of their mouths? Doesn’t it seem like it is a daily occurrence now?

On the next pitch, the catcher slid to the right out of the way of the ball making no attempt to catch it and let it drill the umpire right in the mask. Umpires are fallible human beings. Bad call? Maybe it was. But intentionally letting the ball hit him is poor sportsmanship, dangerous and has no place in the game. The coach, pitcher and catcher should all be ejected from the game. Heck, I might just call the game if I was the umpire and if that is what you are teaching your players, maybe that coach should never be allowed to coach again.
