Sonic Unleashed is a perfect reference point for Amy and Sonic's feelings for her. If you feed Chip the right things here, we see the one-sided conversation that implies Sonic loves someone. This is where Amy first appears in the game. Do you think this is a coincidence?

Time after time, Amy uniquely concerns herself with Sonic as a person and shows her love's depth. Unleashed: Amy is upset at the idea of him fighting hard and others lax, taking him for granted. '06: When Sonic nearly died, Amy is the only one besides Elise to actively pray.

Amy is who cried out to Sonic's soul. When physically weak and broken, she garnered strength to save him, tellling Elise ("love rival") to watch over him. Unlike most, her lines are only concerning and relentlessly on Sonic's life. The emerald she got turned thoughts into power.

There is a reason why Amy has so much faith and trust in Sonic (something he returns). Her devotion is not mindless. It has been thought through. It has been tried and remains true. Sonic X, an iteration given flak and the "shallow affection" accusation, has shown this depth.

This is why Amy's "choosing Sonic over the world" line in Sonic '06 isn't bad at all. Before anything, you must understand: ▪︎ the love and trust Amy has for Sonic ▪︎ Amy's perception of Sonic (which is articulated by her even in this moment) ▪︎ the actual CONTEXT

This line is unnecessarily controversial. People were saying Amy Rose was wrong and crazy for [checks notes] not damning Sonic to death for the world (a hypothetical ultimatum she already made clear would never come to), while not realizing that's what they were saying.

The only time her love could be argued to be puppy love was at the start (CD). It's misunderstood that Amy was Sonic's fan prior (contributing to the false read that Amy is some fangirl). Her meeting Sonic is mirrored by this Sonic Channel comic and plot parallels Ana and Musaid.

Amy or Ana do not know who they will meet. However, it HAPPENED to be Sonic and Musaid. Amy went to the Little Planet due to her card reading. She happened to find Sonic, whom she fell in love with at first sight. Her feelings stuck, only growing and deepening from there.

You have to understand Sonic and Amy's dynamic, the reason why Amy pursues him. It's a light-hearted result of two things: A) Amy loving and wanting to care for him. Being his mirror (sharing his philosophy, temper, ideology, and interests), she wants to join him in endeavors.

When she chases Sonic, it isn't to "bother" him and only out of "unrequited love." B) Amy was made to be the answer to Sonic's world needing a heroine and girlfriend. She's like this to not compromise but emphasize Sonic's character while giving him a romantic angle.

Understand that it isn't quite "poor helpless Sonic doesn't like Amy at all, and she can't take a hint!" It's less of that (it's suggested many times he may like her back), more of Sonic's general disposition towards romance and Amy just coming off too strong.

Sonic's feelings towards Amy are ambiguous and layered. Him possibly regarding Amy more than a friend is a repeated suggestion. It's suggested that if she's mellow and not all over him, he's mellow (and ironically, roles could even swap, with him advancing-invading space).

□ "Amy only cared about Sonic, nothing else!" This is just a lie. Even in games that had her as a side character and leaned more into her love for Sonic, she exhibited traits, interests, character, accomplishments, care, and motivation outside of Sonic. A few examples:

There's more. Even in the games where she was clearly flanderized (i.e., Sonic Battles) and behaved out of character (i.e., Sonic Chronicles, lying about Dexter), there was still something more to her than "Sonic" and she had feats. Even at her worst, there's that constant.

A common citation of Amy being "bad" and "one-note" is Sonic Heroes. Yet Sonic Channel itself even contradicts this, pointing out Amy's dependable leadership. The "no way out of marrying me" was simply a callback to the banter Amy and Sonic had in SA2. This is a fighting game.

Amy wasn't seriously beating him for marriage. Sonic even called it her playing around, and we hear Amy say more seriously to hand Froggy and Chocola over. Speaking of, people also weirdly twist Amy playfully teasing Sonic. Look at SA2, Sonic Riders, and Sonic Zero Gravity.

So now, do you see? When you take a step back and use media literacy with Amy Rose, you will start to understand why these tiresome claims that she's "x" or "y" are fundamentally wrong. This is why Amy fans object to this idea that the only good Amy is the "new" or diluted Amy.

Propositions to "fix" her often come at the expense of who she is. They misrepresent her innate qualities as inherently bad features, thereby erasing her core and dulling her. They are motivated by these misreads and lies about the character. Hence why Amy fans are annoyed.

Since these claims (e.g., "Amy was a one-note stalker fangirl") about Amy are objectively false, the reality of the situation is that the people who make these claims simply do not like or understand Amy. They view her as these negative things, not that she truly is them.

I'll put a pin in it here. I can go all day and break down Sonic X Amy similarly (people misunderstand and ignore the entirety of this version of her too), but I'll save that for another day. I covered more than enough. Click the attachments for expansion.
