I argued in the Lords today that the assisted suicide Bill sends us down a dangerous road. We can't pick and choose which ethical principles we observe without depriving us of the most basic moral protections in future. "I urge us all to ask ourselves - are we really confident we are the generation that is so sure of its judgement, so wise, so knowledgeable, so confident we can create a good society on foundations not that we have inherited but which we ourselves have designed: are we so sure of all of those things that we can casually cast aside 2000 years of Judeo-Christian moral tradition and tell ourselves it doesn’t matter? Look around our country and ask yourselves this. I do not think so, and this is why I hope this Bill will founder."

As Arabs, we need to understand that Israel and the West are not our oppressors or enemies. We, Arabs, are our own worst enemies. We, Arabs, are our greatest oppressors. We, Arabs, have killed and oppressed a million times more of our people than the West and Israel can ever do. It is not Israel that married off my mother when she was a child. It is my people who did. It is not the West or Israel that has been bombing Yemen for the past decade and killed 400,000. It is us, Arabs, who did it. It is not the Israel that implanted Islamic extremism in the East and the West. It is our mosques, it is the books we worship, it is the Imams we follow, it is what we learn and what we teach. It is not the West that forces us to treat women like commodities. It is our people. And most of all, it is not the West or Israel that doesn’t value Arab lives. It is us, Arabs, who do not value human life. If we do not admit to ourselves that WE are the problem, that WE are refusing to progress, and that WE need to change – then change will never happen, blood will keep flowing, and we will never know peace. This is honestly one of my favorite explanations of how magic works and why it's not openly available in the universe. The metaphor of the wall as a psychological barrier we humans as creatures of logic put up on ourselves as we even with it before us can not accept it as real. Sorcerers are the rare few who are not slaves bound to the laws of logic and science. Heck, it took Stephen hell to even just be a beginner, and it all felt earned... truly beautiful in a way.

Jade tells us “how to be an ally.” I used to love her but she’s become so political, it kills her image. Ironic she tells us to “educate ourselves” when she still believes in transitioning children. She also doesn’t understand the problem with talking about “LGBTQ” history as though we are all one and the same. We. Are. Not. Transvestite history is not gay history. Teenage girls with mullets is not gay history. People with DSDs is not gay history. Jade can go “educate” herself I guess. It’s such a condescending phrase! I can’t.
