Expanding the NBA lottery from 14 to 18 teams is more likely to fuel tanking than put an end to it The proposed solution rewards the bottom 10 records with an equal 8% shot at the top pick, while the remaining teams would all have an equal 2.5% chance None of this actually addresses the root issue: Losing has been made an EXTREMELY valuable strategy in a sport where competition is supposed to be paramount Brian Windhorst on The Hoop Collective Pod, "“I had an executive tell me the number one pick this year is worth $100 million. That if you gave the opportunity to buy that pick, teams would pay $100 for it" All an 18 team lottery does is pave the way for 4 more teams to prioritize tanking. Do not kid yourself.
