In Senegal, a government official who has never set foot in your village gets to decide who you can hire, how much you pay them, and whether you can fire them. Then they slap a 45% tariff on the materials you need to make your product competitive. And when you ask about firing someone who isn't working out, the labor office smirks and says "of course you can, it'll just cost you a lot of time and money." This is what people don't understand about labor laws in Africa. They don't protect workers. They stop employers from ever hiring them in the first place.
