I miss the Space Shuttle days 😞

The landing gear was deployed 10 seconds prior to touchdown, when the orbiter was at an altitude of 91 m (300 ft) and traveling 150 m/s (288 kn).

The Challenger and Columbia tragedies aside, RIP to the crew involved. This was an impressive bit of kit, and I would watch the news of the take offs and landings like I did the Apollo missions when I was a kid.

One of my favourites. Something that can go into space and land back on Earth fascinated me as a kid. Watching Challenger was heartbreaking 🙏

I miss our shuttle program. What a chonker lol! But graceful and sexy!

I was a 20-year-old kid in 1988 when Discovery returned to space. I was on the space shuttle rescue team at Edward Air Force Base truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been able to do!!

Loved the shuttle (and yes, I know that this isn’t the shuttle, it’s the orbiter.)

Landing speed was about 290 knots, depending on weight of course. Impressive.
