SpaceX is preparing to launch next-generation Starlink V3 satellites using Starship. These satellites can handle massive data, with up to 1 Tbps downlink and 160 Gbps uplink speeds. With Starship, many V3 satellites can be launched at once, helping build a faster global internet network.

It's too big to be launched on any other rocket on Earth. Starship has a 30 foot diameter cargo bay and the V3 satellites are about 23 feet wide, so very big, like the size of a small bus, essentially, and they have much bigger phase ray antennas, we've got more KU ground links, we've got more of our laser, our satellites communicate with each other with with lasers that we developed and manufactured, so it's got a lot more lasers and more advanced lasers. It's also got W band and E band. It's like a crazy orbiting radio station. Starship V3 is aimed to do 100 tons to orbit with full reusability and then Starship V4 aiming for over 200 tons per mission, and then being able to launch every hour."

Each satellite runs AI compute in orbit and beams results to Earth through Starlink lasers. The satellites draw constant solar power and cool for free in the vacuum. SpaceX filed that plan with the FCC in January. The first satellite, AI1, carries 150 kW of peak compute and spans 70 meters. Starship will carry 30 to 50 AI1 satellites per launch. SpaceX will build them at a new Gigasat factory in Bastrop, Texas. The AI chips come from a planned SpaceX and Tesla fab called Terafab. Two prototypes target early 2027, with thousands of satellites from late 2027.
