I've suspected for quite a while that the project has had the assistance of Apple employees, most likely outside of the blessings of the company. This project has made some serious progress in an extremely short time, relatively speaking. There could the possibility that Apple have figured out the real identities of these people are preparing to make a move, legally. Apple wouldn't necessarily want to make that known, but I don't know. Your story could very well be on the right track and I'm just thinking out of my ass. Who knows at this point.
