Confused about Yuga Labs selling cryptopunks IP for only $20m? Allow me to explain: "Infinite Node Foundation" or whatever is an arms length non-profit. There's overlap between boards on Yuga and Node foundation. Extremely tax advantageous to move the IP from one hand to the other. The acquisition price was never disclosed but let's assume it was 400m for cryptopunks IP for sake of argument. Yuga then realizes they overpaid for IP that can't monetize without public blowback after the woke punks fiasco. Yuga "sells" the IP to their associated non-profit booking a -380m loss on paper they can use for offsetting taxes. Meanwhile they still control the IP at arms length and are able to profit from the IP (they can be a little more creative under the banner of non-profit) "By why not donate the punk IP and get the full write off?" Zero chance it would command the same appraisal as it did in 2021 so better to use cost basis and have Yuga corp take the loss on paper. This is purely my speculation on how this went down based on the 7 years I spent working in the fine art / non-profit world.

Coinbase is trying to solve what may be the biggest problem in journalism itself: Ownership. Who owns the audience, the data, the monetization, and most importantly, the relationship with readers? Because for the last decade, the answer has largely been Silicon Valley. And that's exactly why so many journalists, newspapers, creators and independent outlets have been slowly suffocated. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO behind Grand Theft Auto 6, is skeptical of AI creating new, original, hit video games: “What AI is, despite the fact that there are people in Silicon Valley who don't want you to believe this, is big data sets, lots of compute, and a large language model mushed together. Data sets by their very nature are backward-looking. Creativity by its very nature is forward-looking. Right now with AI we can more efficiently create a completely derivative property. Derivative properties don't work. Where the thread has been lost is that AI so far is really great at asset creation. But hit creation isn't asset creation. Asset creation is a necessary but insufficient condition for hit creation. I would love to say that AI will make it easier and quicker and better to make hits because who would benefit more than we? He's honestly not the best dad, but he could have been worse. I still really hate him for how pathetic he was for leaving his family at their worst instead of being the man of the house. This man is a total coward. But he deserves the hate he gets. Still, he's not the worst human being possible, he's just scared, and he made horrible mistakes. You can tell how much he regrets it.
