Confused about Yuga Labs selling cryptopunks IP for only $20m? Allow me to explain: "Infinite Node Foundation" or whatever is an arms length non-profit. There's overlap between boards on Yuga and Node foundation. Extremely tax advantageous to move the IP from one hand to the other. The acquisition price was never disclosed but let's assume it was 400m for cryptopunks IP for sake of argument. Yuga then realizes they overpaid for IP that can't monetize without public blowback after the woke punks fiasco. Yuga "sells" the IP to their associated non-profit booking a -380m loss on paper they can use for offsetting taxes. Meanwhile they still control the IP at arms length and are able to profit from the IP (they can be a little more creative under the banner of non-profit) "By why not donate the punk IP and get the full write off?" Zero chance it would command the same appraisal as it did in 2021 so better to use cost basis and have Yuga corp take the loss on paper. This is purely my speculation on how this went down based on the 7 years I spent working in the fine art / non-profit world.

The media's fatal mistake was giving Silicon Valley ownership of the audience while journalists did all the work. Journalists no longer own their audience, their data, their revenue, their distribution, or increasingly, even their own work. Think about how insane that is. The people creating the content don't control the business built around it. That's a crisis that's far bigger than left versus right, censorship, or media bias: the entire economic model underpinning journalism is broken. A reporter can risk their life covering a war in Ukraine, corruption in Africa, or political unrest in the Middle East, generate millions of views, and still have no idea how much money their work made, when they'll get paid, why one story performed better than another, or whether the platform will bury them tomorrow. Meanwhile, the platforms know everything. They see every click, every view, every dollar, and every trend. The creators see almost none of it. Coinbase is trying to solve what may be the biggest problem in journalism itself: Ownership. Who owns the audience, the data, the monetization, and most importantly, the relationship with readers? Because for the last decade, the answer has largely been Silicon Valley. And that's exactly why so many journalists, newspapers, creators and independent outlets have been slowly suffocated. His argument is that journalism doesn't have a content problem; it has a control problem. And unless journalists take back ownership of their audiences, their data, their revenue, and their IP, the people producing the information society depends on will continue getting weaker while the platforms built on top of them get stronger. It's one of the most important conversations I've had about the future of media. Because if journalism can't figure out how to survive economically, then eventually there won't be any journalism left to save.

I'll continue to get better off of it. Even with Thibs the past couple years, we were still learning how to do certain things, getting better at certain things. I don't want to say I'm going to 'master' it at any point, I'm just going to continue getting better and better and be more fluent at it. It's going to be a process, for sure."

Alex Karp went on CNBC and absolutely torched Anthropic & OpenAI. He is a bit biased, but he isnt totally wrong here either. Many enterprises went all-in on AI tokens thinking usage as it meant progress. More prompts, more agents, more tokens, more and more tokens. Real question still remains: What actual workflow changed? How much was the cost? What decision got better? What alpha stayed inside the company? Was the data cached on the model provider’s servers? That is where the frustration seems to be building among enterprise CEOs. The problem is enterprises are paying more and more to rent intelligence, while still worrying about their data, IP, workflows, and overall control. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO behind Grand Theft Auto 6, is skeptical of AI creating new, original, hit video games: “What AI is, despite the fact that there are people in Silicon Valley who don't want you to believe this, is big data sets, lots of compute, and a large language model mushed together. Data sets by their very nature are backward-looking. Creativity by its very nature is forward-looking. Right now with AI we can more efficiently create a completely derivative property. Derivative properties don't work. Where the thread has been lost is that AI so far is really great at asset creation. But hit creation isn't asset creation. Asset creation is a necessary but insufficient condition for hit creation. I would love to say that AI will make it easier and quicker and better to make hits because who would benefit more than we? We're in that business already. We own IP that you know. Creating new IP is really really hard to do—with or without AI. Getting someone to buy a new video game is incredibly hard. Getting them to buy GTA 6? Not so hard by comparison. So it's not that I take lightly the potential benefits of new technology. It's just that when our stock goes down by 50 points because people are like: "With AI anyone can make a video game.” It's like anyone could make a video game last week. Robot policies must be both reliable and highly capable to be useful; the best way to achieve this level of performance is with reinforcement learning. However, for reinforcement learning you are usually stuck between two difficult options: reinforcement in the real world is often risky and expensive, while reinforcement learning in a traditional simulator takes a lot of engineering work and has a persistent sim-to-real gap. What if instead you could train your robot purely in a world model? RISE by Jiazhi Yang et al. uses a compositional world model to predict the future and evaluate progress. This allows for a self-improving pipeline, which learns a world model from real data and then learns how the robot should perform different tasks. This pipeline results in a data-driven way to improve policy performance from real data but without real-world reinforcement learning. He's honestly not the best dad, but he could have been worse. I still really hate him for how pathetic he was for leaving his family at their worst instead of being the man of the house. This man is a total coward. But he deserves the hate he gets. Still, he's not the worst human being possible, he's just scared, and he made horrible mistakes. You can tell how much he regrets it. He's trying to atone for his sins and be better. He's seeking forgiveness, even putting his life in danger for his blood in front of a being that could instantly kill him. Even though he's a total coward, he's still trying to protect his daughter. It makes me cry. I still hate this guy, but I also understand him. I don't know what to feel about him at this point. I know families aren't perfect, Symphogear shows how messed up things can be in families and how it affects the kids the most. It feels so real.
