Bench press. Shoulder press. Squats. Deadlifts. Those four basics were always in my arsenal throughout my career. Master the foundation and keep training hard.

59 years young here.. Legs have always been big.. Slightly downsized because I don't compete but on or off they stay big. No squats in 25 years, just presses #legday

Had done pin squats in the past when I was powerlifting. Usually for singles. And always in low bar. I actually did them as a deadlift assistance movement. Learned that from the old U of H powerlifting coach John Hudson who believed in heavy pin squats singles as a training tool for increasing leg drive off the floor. Haven’t done them in years. Did them today - in High Bar. And for 3 sets of 6-10 reps. Every fiber of my quads was on life support after. These are NOT the same as regular pause squats or box squats. Old dogs can learn new tricks.

These are always misleading because a lot of beginner gym-goers are going to assume you can build all that with resistance bands and high-rep 10kg squats in your apartment living room during your lunch break or something lol

People always ask if there was only one lift I’d do, what would it be? This is it - slant board goblet squats. Literally a full body lift that is great for your knees and torches your core. If you’re not doing these, you should.

This is how I always warm up. It's called a bird dog. The bird dog builds core stability, protects your lower back, and strengthens your glutes by improving balance and spinal alignment. I do this before squats and deadlifts every time and it's really helped with my sciatica.

This squat set-up is CRAZY…but it works! Ruslan Nurudinov: “Before 25, my mindset was simple. Lift HEAVY. That's all you need. But with age, intensity isn't what it used to be. So instead of always pushing intensity, I often increase complexity. Chaotic squats improve balance, stability, concentration and control all at once!"

Front squats have always been a glaring weakness for me. Some of it has to do with poor limb leverages for it, for example my best back squat in a powerlifting competition was 640lbs whereas best front squat was 320 lbs-They kind of suck to do as they are uncomfortable, but they are on the path of where I want to go as an athlete so as they say “c’est la vie” -I’ll be doing them a lot more! On a good note, made some decent progress on rowing fitness today!

315 for 8 reps! The barbell bench press has been dragged too much in the past few years. I don’t care what the data says, I get more from this lift than any other chest movement. I love me a good machine, but most big guys you’ll meet will tell you that their gains came from big lifts like this, squats and deadlifts. It’s always funny to watch the “fitness influencers” state with the utmost confidence that machines are superior, but they’re usually small and relying on some cherry-picked studies. The pros know - the basics are still superior.

“I beat it out of me.” Josh Brolin had a brutal 9mm slipped disc. Doctors told him to rest and consider surgery. Instead, he did the opposite, kept working out, running, and doing pistol squats even when it got worse. Then one day… it was just gone. Never came back. Movement is everything, he says. We’re so quick to default to rest and meds when something hurts, but sometimes the body needs to be pushed through the pain to heal. Real recovery isn’t always comfortable or conventional. Sometimes you have to move toward the discomfort instead of away from it.

#SOUTHCOM service members executed the Murph Challenge, a workout consisting of a 1-mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats, and another 1-mile run to finish. The Murph Challenge honors the memory of U.S. Navy LT (SEAL) Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in action during combater operations in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005. “Remembering and honoring the service members who fought and died on behalf of our country is something we’ll always do as a country – especially during Memorial Day weekend. But to put ourselves through the physical and mental rigors of the Murph Challenge is an absolute privilege, because it’s an opportunity to meet the high standards of an incredible U.S. Navy SEAL, LT Murphy.” – SgtMaj Rafael Rodriguez, Command Senior Enlisted Leader, SOUTHCOM Department of War 🇺🇸
