Andover Central defeated Bishop Miege in the 4A State Championship today in Emporia. This is the first time since 2013 that a public school has won a 4A state title. Hesston (3A🏀) was very impressive tonight in their 65-43 girls state quarterfinal victory over Cheney. Kendal Brueggen was incredible tonight with 31 points and is one of the best in the state. Hesston has zero seniors, going to be a very scary team. They advance to the semifinals to take on two-time defending champion Goodland. History Made: Wellington earns their first title in school history breaking Bishop Miege’s 5 year streak winning 53-48. Wellington’s star senior duo of Valerie Norwood and Britt Zeka led the way with 20 and 15 points respectively. Miege has ended Wellingtons season the past three years including last year in the state title game. The Crusaders are coached by Eric Adams who has built quite the program out in Wellington.
