Carter Hajek of Nemaha Central finished one of the most storied careers in Kansas high school football history as a three-time Sports in Kansas 2A Player of the Year. Hajek closed his career with 7,902 rushing yards, 132 total touchdowns, 3,014 passing yards and 37 passing touchdowns while becoming Kansas’ all-time career touchdown leader. He also helped lead the Thunder to three state championships and one state runner-up finish. Hajek will continue his football career at Emporia State this fall. We caught up with him after his East Shrine Bowl squad earned a 14-7 victory on Saturday night in Emporia. #sportsinkansas

St. Thomas Aquinas (4A) knocks off defending state champion and powerhouse Bishop Miege, 14-7, to win the regional championship. Earliest exit from the playoff for Miege since 2011. Miege won this same game 19-7 a month ago. Aquinas led by a huge defensive performance on the night to limit Miege to their lowest point total in 15 years. Olathe Northwest (6A🏈9-3) gets a big win over defending champions Gardner Edgerton tonight to advance to the 6A state championship. Brody Comfort and Bryce Randall with standout games tonight on offense with multiple TDs each. The Ravens defense also stepped up huge tonight against a good offensive. HC Lorne Clark and the Ravens are fired up and ready to get back to work next week where they will play Manhattan in the 6A state championship. GAME WINNER X2!!! Gabe Pyle of McPherson does it again with a bucket at the buzzer to win it for the Bullpups! McPherson takes down undefeated #1 seed Ottawa in double OT 52-50 to advance to the 4A State Championship tomorrow as Pyle had a game high 16 points. Incredible weekend so far for the senior as he had 23 points and a buzzer beater on Wednesday to take down Baldwin. In case you were wondering what the fastest Women’s 4x100 in Kansas HS history looks like 👀 Sarah Oberreuter, Hanna Pellant, Harli Omli, and Michelle Jeje of Manhattan HS now hold the fastest time in Kansas high school history in the 4x100 with a time of 46.84 🤯 The previous record was from 2017 by Newton HS with a time of 46.86. Hesston (3A🏀) was very impressive tonight in their 65-43 girls state quarterfinal victory over Cheney. Kendal Brueggen was incredible tonight with 31 points and is one of the best in the state. Hesston has zero seniors, going to be a very scary team. They advance to the semifinals to take on two-time defending champion Goodland. Beloit (3A🏀) punched their ticket to the Final Four with a 56-42 victory over Hayden. Bryce Beisner (12points, 9 rebounds, 5 blocks) and Eli Johnson (21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks) combined 14/16 from field, 3/3 from three. Johnson had three dunks in the game. History Made: Wellington earns their first title in school history breaking Bishop Miege’s 5 year streak winning 53-48. Wellington’s star senior duo of Valerie Norwood and Britt Zeka led the way with 20 and 15 points respectively. Miege has ended Wellingtons season the past three years including last year in the state title game. The Crusaders are coached by Eric Adams who has built quite the program out in Wellington.
