Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader was a graphical miracle for 2001. Developed by Factor 5, the game’s "Death Star Trench Run" featured more polygons in a single frame than the entire Rogue Squadron game on the Nintendo 64! 🚀✨ The developers were so obsessed with detail that... show more

Did you know? Star Wars Rogue Squadron (1998) was so technically demanding that developer Factor 5 had to lobby Nintendo to release the Expansion Pak so they could display the game in a revolutionary high-resolution 640x480 mode.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader launched on GameCube in 2001 as a system exclusive. Stunning graphics, epic dogfights and some of the most memorable Star Wars missions ever put on a console. A launch title that still looks incredible.

Glad to see the Star Fox remake, but who else has been clucking for some new Star Wars Rogue Squadron? We need a new game in the series, I'd even settle for remakes/remasters right now. Who's with me? Btw, Dolphin with HD textures does a smashing job in Rogue Squadron 2

Are you this old? Star Wars hit arcades in May 1983. Atari’s vector-graphics masterpiece put you inside an X-Wing cockpit with real movie voices and the Death Star trench run. It was the most immersive Star Wars game of the entire decade.

While exploring the Lucasfilm archives for Rogue One, Gareth Edwards discovered cans of original Star Wars footage that had never been fully digitised. Among them were unused 1977 shots of Red Leader and Gold Leader. ILM restored the footage and placed the pilots into the Battle of Scarif nearly 40 years later.

Die, rebel scum! Star Wars: Tie Fighter (LucasArts, 1994) was the sequel to Star Wars: X-Wing and better in every aspect! X-Wing was great, yes, but TIE Fighter seriously switched gears. It was the first Star Wars game to let you play as the Empire, as a force of order against those pesky rebels! Woohoo! Joining the Dark Side was simply badass (and honestly more fun). Getting that tattoo lasered on to your arm, epic. Hearing the original laser and blaster sounds, absolute nerd chills. Computer Gaming World, GameSpot, and IGN all inducted it into the Hall of Fame. TIE Fighter was a masterclass from LucasArts and a serious rival to the Wing Commander franchise from Origin.

Words like "groundbreaking" and "revolutionary" get thrown around a lot, but when Star Wars hit arcades in 1983, it was a total nerd fest - in the absolute best way. This game was THE shit back then (pardon my French). You pilot Luke's X-Wing fighter in a recreation of the Battle of Yavin from A New Hope. Using a flight yoke, you aim and fire lasers while managing limited shields. Digitized voices straight from the movie ("Use the Force, Luke!") and John Williams iconic score were causing maximum nerd chills. The game had three looping stages with increasing difficulty: Space combat: You dogfight swarms of TIE fighters while dodging lasers. Death Star surface: You skim the trench-filled exterior, blasting towers and turrets. Trench run: You try to drop a proton torpedo into the exhaust port with Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced right behind you on your tail! May the Force be with you! Always.

The 1964 war film 633 Squadron, directed by Walter Grauman and starring Cliff Robertson, follows a fictional RAF unit’s high-stakes mission to destroy a Nazi rocket fuel plant located beneath an overhanging cliff in a Norwegian fjord. Renowned for its rousing Ron Goodwin score and its influence on the Death Star trench run in Star Wars, the production is notable for using five authentic de Havilland Mosquito aircraft to film its climactic aerial sequences. While the story is fictional, it captures the technical prowess of the "Wooden Wonder" aircraft and the extreme risks faced by Allied pilots during World War II.

In 1977, George Lucas knew exactly what he wanted the Death Star trench run to look like. The problem was, the technology to pull it off didn't really exist yet. John Dykstra and the team at Industrial Light & Magic developed the Dykstraflex, a computer-controlled camera system that could repeat the exact same movement over and over. That allowed them to film the miniature ships separately and combine everything into the shots we eventually saw on screen. And those Death Star trenches weren't CGI. They actually built detailed miniature sections of the surface and filmed the camera flying over them. Almost 50 years later, I think that's what makes Star Wars so impressive. They were figuring this stuff out as they went, and somehow it still holds up today. Where does the Death Star trench run rank among the greatest movie scenes of all time?

Still find it awesome that the vinyl release of John Williams’ score for The Force Awakens had etchings in the record that, when light shined down on it, projected a ‘hologram’ of a TIE Fighter and the Millennium Falcon. Such a fun detail, wish more Star Wars records did this!

Everyone seems to have fond memories of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for the N64. I sure do, I love it. It also gets incredibly difficult thanks to the on foot camera and platforming. They must have known they had a masterpiece with the Hoth level to start the game with it. Opening the game with a flight section in the era of X-Wing and TIE Fighter only to transition to Dash Rendar on foot with a blaster was brilliant. This wasn't just an arcade flyer, it wasn't just an action game. This is Shadows of the Empire baby. #StarWarsDay

#BreakingNews For the first time, astronomers have captured images of a star other than the Sun in enough detail to track the motion of bubbling gas on its surface. The images of the star✨, R Doradus, were obtained with ALMA📡, in July and August 2023 🔗

Seriously don’t understand how people think Rey was immediately presented as “one of the best pilots in Star Wars” when this was her first time flying the Millennium Falcon. Between all the crashes, scrapes, and blasts from TIE Fighters, it’s legitimately a miracle that Rey and Finn were actually able to escape from Jakku.

🇮🇱🇬🇧 Netanyahu: British government has “gone rogue” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the Labour government of pandering to what he called an “Islamist Leftist alliance.” “In order to ingratiate itself with its political base, [the British government] has gone rogue. Like a rogue state.” Netanyahu also warned that Britain could “lose Britain” unless it regains control of its borders. Pretty ironic for Netanyahu to call Britain a “rogue state” while he is wanted by the ICC on war crimes and crimes against humanity charges and Israel is an actual rogue state committing genocide.

Today is the release day of the Star Fox remake. Unfortunately, it’s coming out a few days later in Korea, but it still brings back a lot of memories of when the original Star Fox 64 was released on the Nintendo 64. Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 were incredible games, but Star Fox 64 was also a huge hit when it launched. Unlike its predecessor’s simple linear progression, it introduced all-range mode, allowing players to freely fly around a 3D space during certain missions and boss battles. This made the gameplay much more dynamic and varied. It also added a new 4-player versus mode, which was a lot of fun with friends. The graphics were impressive for the time, and the full voice acting helped make the game far more immersive. Most importantly, Star Fox 64 was the first Nintendo game to support the Rumble Pak. What is now considered a standard feature in game controllers essentially started here. The shock of feeling controller vibration for the first time was far beyond anything I had imagined. I pre-ordered my copy a long time ago and have been eagerly waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully it gets here soon! Has anyone else ordered this game? 😆

We’re at KNH with Jonah Kariuki whose son Boniface Mwangi Kariuki was brutally shot by a rogue police force at close range yesterday while hawking face masks along Moi Avenue during the #JusticeForAlbertOjwang protest. Boniface Mwangi Kariuki is alive but fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at the KNH. We pray for a speedy recovery for Boniface and all the other Kenyans who were injured yesterday and regret the damage to property that was occasioned by the lawlessness sanctioned and sponsored by rogue state agents. Justice be our shield and defender.

Will forever stand by the fact that The Battle of Scarif at the end of Rogue One is genuinely one of the greatest fictional battles that I've ever watched in a movie. Gareth Edwards' stunning visuals only make this sequence even more iconic, and I'll always appreciate how they utilized unused footage from 1977 to further interconnect this story to the original Star Wars film. Can't believe it's almost been a decade since I first watched this in theaters, seeing this in IMAX with a packed crowd back in 2016 was unreal.

My song Just Drive was dedicated to the most incredible movement in Canadian history that was trampled on by deceitful rogue cowards with a sinister agenda! Bank accounts were frozen and peaceful protesters were arrested. Despite being vilified & abused their love conquered all.

Jumped like a madman when I realised what they were forced to make on Narkina 5 was actually components of the Death Star. So Andor literally played a part in building the weapon that inevitably killed him… Insane visual to end S1 on.
