STARLINK: Gunnar Ramsland, Sr System Engineer at Marlink, shared a new time-lapse video of mid-winter testing at the Eik Teleport demonstrating the Maritime Starlink Gen3 antenna. The footage shows the antenna effectively melting snow during active snowfall, with a thermal camera overlay highlighting heat distribution and snow clearance performance.

We have over 30 gen 1s and the heaters work great. Maritime application and offices shore side in AK. They've performed well even at -50 sustained for multiple weeks.

-13C Ice is accumulating, but the internet is working fine.

I was always wondering why they don't do that for solar panel, a tech limitation probably

Tesla Solar actually does 'snow shedding'. They are designed in a way that allows snow to slide off more efficiently. Combined with minor heat generation from the solar cells when sunlight hits them, the snow falls/melts off rather quickly. It's not actively heating like the Starlink, but it works.

@electrolyse4 Our solar panels don't heat. Luckily the snow melted in it's own now, but we had a week of rather poor PV performance.

@SERobinsonJr I wish they could keep a +10 Celsius when covered by snow

We will need a few of these at my Greenland coffee shop and bistro when we invade Greenland. lol

Passively using heat or heating on purpose
