"Elon is very mysterious in a way that somehow nobody seems to notice. One of his slogans is, Ad Astra, to the stars, but you can't get to the stars using SpaceX because it's a chemical rocket company. So what the heck? He's not investing in physics, he was going to go into a physics grad school and he has a physics BA, so there's something very very strange about Elon, which is that he's focused on getting to the stars, he doesn't seem to have any interest in physicists, and he has a chemical rocket company. What's going on? His real space company, I think, is not SpaceX, it's xAI, it's Grok. Look at the logo for Grok, I think it's like a black hole profile. Look at its slogan, to understand the universe. I think he's given up on the corruption of science. He keeps talking about the fact that he doesn't like the term researcher, he believes only in engineers. He's constantly really running down scientists. I don't think he doesn't believe in scientists, I think he thinks that science has gotten corrupted and he doesn't want to deal with it. I think what he's doing is he's building Grok to do science in a time when humans are too corrupt to be truthful and real." 😮👀

He was a founder of Leap Motion, which is completely slept on as one of the first major projects he worked on." "What I really like about that team is that a lot of the same team from Leap Motion followed David into Midjourney and now into this hardware exploration." "They were training neural nets before there was TensorFlow, before there was GPUs. They did it on CPUs, and they had some of the first neural network technology deployed in a consumer product." Michel Gondry talks about this magnificent scene from "Kes" (1969, Loach): "With Ken Loach, it's always very social. So, its the middle of England. In the '70s, probably still now, but it was very ravaged by unemployment and poverty. And you see kids when they are 15, they've already registered for unemployment money. So this kid, he finds his passion with his bird, the kestrel. And there is this moment that's magical, and it's a great lesson too. So, at school, he's very invisible. He's completely invisible. And one day, each pupil has to talk about something. And he starts to talk about his bird and suddenly, he shines. He changes because he speaks about something that he loves. This thing is amazing to me. That it's a great illustration about how so many people feel they are lazy, or they are not interested in things. This is him answering, with none of the bitterness you'd expect. He said he'd thought about it a lot and would rather not dwell on it. Then he named the cost plainly. "I think everybody lost. I think I lost. You know, I wanted to spend my life there. I think Apple lost. I think customers lost." And almost in the same breath, he let it go. "And having said all that, so what? You go on. It's not as bad as a lot of things. It's not as bad as losing your arm." From there he talked, clear-eyed, about the company that pushed him out, the camps fighting over what Apple should become, the products he thought were slipping.
