Steve Eisman says Amodei and Altman are hustlers running a shell game, fomenting AI hysteria to win regulation that builds them a moated duopoly "So again, what's really going on? Business is potentially slowing or at least getting more difficult." "And like a side street hustler moving the shells... show more

The best way to test a thesis is to argue the other side. It’s hard to do that here.

They both need to be put in prison

Way to summarize what has been going on since May. Good summary

obvious

regulatory capture disguised as safety is wild to watch in real time

What's an issue is that the cost of capital is increasing, which means the ROIC hurdle is getting harder.

Kaboooooom!

Glad a lot of folks are catching up

Frontier AI is all one big incestuous, AI cartel ponzi scheme.

Yes they are trying to scare everyone now because it serves them! They’ve build out large enough. Yes they have no moat, but they also know that the security issues are very real and can not be addressed unilaterally, that they steal IP to keep improving their models, and

That they carry nuclear liabilities that are growing and it’s unsustainable. This is all not mutually exclusive.

Steve Eisman's conclusion is the most logical one based on the actions and information shared publicly by OpenAI and Anthropic. Safety is certainly important but nobody is preventing either from taking actions on their own. They are saying one thing but their actions do the opposite. Any alternative explanation is just a thought experiment at this point. Unless their actions show otherwise, OpenAI and Anthropic are harming the nascent AI industry (e.g., start-ups, open models, etc.) more than supporting it.
