Stoke Space is developing a fully reusable rocket designed to reuse both its first and second stages. The first stage lands like Falcon 9, while the second stage returns to Earth after delivering its payload using a unique engine with 30 thrust chambers. Its actively cooled heat shield uses...

I wish then the greatest success. I'm going to interested to see what the mass penalty is for the second stage.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's still in development. Using CGI and AI to simulate the end product is much easier than actually building and executing. That being said, good luck to them.

SpaceX(Falcon 9のブースター着陸とかStarshipのベリーフロップ)は「下側」の従来寄りアプローチで、これは「上側」の新しい試みって感じで合ってる。

Not to put a dampener on a paper tiger, but call me back when the 2nd stage makes it back to Earth in one piece.

The only thing Stoke Space have developed at the moment is a good AI generated video at the moment. While SpaceX has already proven the technological expertise which goes all the way from concept, to fast trials, improvement, and production, complete with reusability, and made it a reality. That’s reality versus AI generated video, as far as I can see.

The active cooling concept is elegant. Eliminates ablative refurbishment between flights. But 30 thrust chambers on the second stage… that's a lot of plumbing to manage reliably.

SpaceX once considered recovering the second stage of its rocket, but ultimately decided against it because it wasn't worth the effort.
