Stop adding columns to mobile menus

Wow, a ux designer I don't want to punch in the face, thanks for this. Although you're on thin ice with that beanie.

Bro just eliminated the search feature lmao

You just inspired a new gesture for my app

I disagree. Palm OS was peak.

even the menu is vegan now, damn

Oh you have a problem with columns? I know how to fix it! Make one column! But why stop there? You can group the rows into categories and give them labels! Yes, you just created multiple columns again, but now they are just stacked on top of each other! Isn't that brilliant? Now, go ahead and remove the icons you spent resources creating in an effort to align everything instead of adding new icons to the ones that didn't have them. Always remember, your users have the IQ of a monkey that drinks water downstream from a nuclear plant, so be sure not to have too many controls at the top. You know, giving them too much control is a bad thing. You don't need to have a logical and usable UI, you just need to create the illusion of one by reducing the amount of possible navigation actions someone can trigger as they bash the screen with their fists. Like guard rails, but not on a road, on a roundabout. Trap them. Remember, nobody uses the back button built into their phone anymore. Trust me, you don't need to confirm that. So make navigation only possible with little buttons. That way, when they are 4 pages deep into your website, the back button on the phone will completely reset them to the beginning and hide all evidence of where they had just come from. If they need to go back, let's make it really easy to go back actually, and if you blink, breathe, or do so much as look at the wrong part of the screen around the current popup menu, it will automatically close the menu and delete any fields they might have already typed in. Organization is fine, nothing to so with columns. But why kill the search? 🤣

As a user, the first menu had some advantages that have been lost! Where did you put the search icon? Is search dropped as a feature, or just harder to find?

Ok Claude, do exactly what this gentleman did and make it a permanent rule for any menu we ever design!

How to deal with submenus where the main menu item is also clickable?

needed this thanks

This is loaded advice. The icons being inconsistent and the links not being grouped has nothing to do with columns. Using columns is a per case type of thing, it either works or it doesn't. Also, the initial spacing is arguably better for touch.

bro where'd the search button go??

lol, but we spent £7m on those icons

If y'all gonna be calling it "Sport" then you gotta be consistent it and call it "New"

Keyboard plug?

@glowsslu

Oversimplification has ruined the beauty of design... Only the Chinese app devs understand this. This design was made lame

Where did search go? or was it just searching menu items?

WoW! This is really cool! What did you use for these animations?

the way mobile designers will add 4 columns to a 320px screen and call it a day while search sits buried somewhere in a hamburger menu.

Can't show it in dynamic, but it's almost 6am here, and I did the same for my project on the Ukrainian social network! Love the idea!

Really enjoyed the video, I agree with most points But a couple i disagree with The search icon is gone, it's way too important to hide The vertical gap is too little now, increases chances of mis-clicking especially if you're using your thumbs

I love hearing the explanations articulated

@joy014 @sheetalssr

The first menu could get inproved by editing the graphics and style. But it was far more functional than your new selection. First of all items were far away from each other - easy to click even with large fingers. All were visible at once. Scrolling is quite annoying.

My Agent can’t do this.

its normal

This is worse

Put the icons back faggot

Can’t take advice seriously from someone wearing a beanie inside, and not even wearing it properly

Mobile menus with columns are how you accidentally invent a spreadsheet.

Not applicable in german

Very cool stuff.

Tbh this looks like not so good UX. Different but not necessarily good
