No. If you’re going less than the minimum speed your hazards are to be on.

@Steph93065 I do this during a really terrible downpour. It alerts the driver behind you that you are traveling much slower than the speed limit. I’ve tried without it. It’s a nightmare. Additionally, it lets people know (in snow) that you are taking your damn time and they can eff off. lol

Using your hazards in these conditions is LITERALLY a question on the current CDL test with the correct answer being YES.

Stop doing what? Being a safe responsible driver w/ common sense? A lot of people already aren’t great drivers as is, so you bet your ass i’m gonna do whatever i can to prevent an accident to help them understand what’s going on, that of which includes driving with hazards on if i’m going much slower than the speed limit due to hazardous conditions.

I kinda like when they do that. It clearly lets me know who can and cannot drive in inclement weather. Kinda like the people still wearing masks in the grocery store.

Sorry, is someone who has grown up in the Midwest and has driven in this kind of weather, I appreciate the hazard lights. It also shows courtesy to others showing conditions might be bad enough that you should probably slow your ass down.

In most states it is illegal to drive work your hazard lights on. If you are a hazard you should be to the roadside. The flashing lights obfuscate brake lights and distract other drivers.

I’m going to be honest. While driving through hurricane Florence. Hazard lights saved me from hitting people. So in some instances of vary low visibility. I recommend putting your hazard lights on. But it’s just my opinion.

Doing what? Signalling in low visibility that you are driving under the speed limit? Why? You want more pile ups?!

Brooklyn's profile picture

There have been multiple bad weather pile up accidents in the past month with multiple fatalities… if this slows EVERYONE down during weather that affects visibility or traction have at it people…

I'm sixty-four years old and have lived in Wisconsin most of my life and have driven through many snowstorms. When did this emergency flasher thing become a thing? It seems like more of a distraction than anything. Everyone is expected to slow down in icy and snowy conditions.

I would do this if I were the last one in that cluster of traffic. But as soon as there are cars behind me I'd shut it off.

I'm sorry, in near white out conditions I'd much rather see hazards than encounter an accident.

SEIA Construction, LLC's profile picture

My question is, why? When I was a deputy, it was an easy traffic stop. I’d ask them why they had their emergency hazard lights on. They’d all have the same answer. Then I’d cite them for it 321.423 subsection 6. Half the time they didn’t speak Engrish, didn’t have a valid state license not state recognized ID.

I'd rather have people put on the hazards than them driving like high speed idiots in slippery conditions. This is done in Fog conditions as well its just a warning for others to stay away drive slow stay safe.

I fucking hate that. These idiots act like they are the only ones seeing the snow coming down, so it's their job to warn you.

So many people in here missing the point that if you have to drive that much slower than traffic, you shouldn't be out there in the first place.

Natalee's profile picture

This looks like I-94. People here are well aware of the perils of this highway, so the flashers are a “courtesy warning” to other travelers who may not be aware of how bad this highway rapidly gets. If you’re traveling through Michigan on I-94, take this advice and slowwww down.

Unless there is ice on that road that is not enough snow to even slow down

Torchify911's profile picture
Torchify91110 months ago

I can tell you why this is bad practice: If you're next to someone who has their hazards on, you can't tell if it's hazards or a blinker. This is especially dangerous on a three lane highway at night. If I'm in the left lane and the middle lane is unoccupied, with one of these blinker riders, I'd need to speed up or slow down to know drivers intentions. Hazard lights should be used when your vehicle is in a hazardous, non-movable position on the road way only.

Alan Crawford's profile picture

In Pennsylvania it is required by law to use your hazard lights if you are traveling slower than the minimum speed limit for that roa or anytime your vehicle is unable to travel faster than 25 mph for any reason including weather.

I will never understand why people say don’t do this. This only increases the visibility of your car and states hazards slow down. There’s no such thing as being too safe
