After 4:00 pm, the main precipitation type will be rain, and it’s expected to become heavy in the evening. The first wind event will impact not just Northern California but also Central and Southern California in the next 72 hours. Let me explain. The initial wind event will affect Northern California as a surface cold front crashes through, with north winds gusts reaching 45 to 60 mph. This particular wind event will impact the Napa, Santa Rosa, and San Francisco regions from Wednesday noon through about 1 PM Thursday, when the cold front moves down into Bakersfield, kicking up dust and debris and potentially causing issues on the 5 Freeway and 99. This will likely have impacts later tonight through Thursday. Meanwhile, in Southern California, northwest wind gusts are projected to reach 40 to 55 mph, possibly causing trees to fall and powerlines to collapse early Thursday morning and continuing through Thursday night. This will also affect Long Beach, California, which is quite unusual for these events. A secondary low-pressure axis will take shape, arriving on Saturday at 4AM to Sunday at 12PM positioning itself near Yuma, Arizona. This atmospheric setup with allow asurface high over Santa Cruz, California of a 1025 millibar high will create ideal conditions for a strong and potentially strong Santa Ana wind event for Southern California particularly the corridor from Santa Clarita to Camarillo around 55 to 65 mph, creating potential for destructive power lines to come down. Unfortunately, this very strong wind will cause mountain waves in the San Fernando Valley and Malibu region. The good news is that we will not see significant fire activity due to the recent tremendous rainfall we experienced in mid February 2026 and in December 2025. However, Saturday 2AM - 9AM there is concern that we could see even isolated stronger winds in Altadena and Pasadena that could exceed 65 MPH gusts. I am closely monitoring the situation, as this very windy period will also affect Las Vegas and parts of Arizona with gusts of 45MPH - 65 MPH. ⚠️Storm Floris disruption to continue into Tuesday⚠️ Storm Floris continues to bring very strong and disruptive winds across Scotland, with an amber Met Office warning in place until 23:00 across Glasgow, Edinburgh, and all areas north of the Central Belt area. A further yellow warning is in place across all other areas of Scotland, until the end of today. The damage caused by the storm has been extensive, including trees falling onto overhead wires and tracks. Network Rail will soon begin work to recover the railway, as a number of routes will need to be inspected once the storm has passed and then repair work carried out. While some checks will be carried out later tonight, further inspections will be needed during daylight hours, which will cause disruption to services on some routes on Tuesday morning. Customers planning to travel on Tuesday should check their journey before travelling using the ScotRail app, website and our page. ScotRail tickets dated Monday, 4 August, will be valid for travel on our services tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 August. ⚠️Storm Floris disruption to continue into Tuesday⚠️ Storm Floris continues to bring very strong and disruptive winds across Scotland, with an amber Met Office warning in place until 23:00 across Glasgow, Edinburgh, and all areas north of the Central Belt area. A further yellow warning is in place across all other areas of Scotland, until the end of today. The damage caused by the storm has been extensive, including trees falling onto overhead wires and tracks. Network Rail will soon begin work to recover the railway, as a number of routes will need to be inspected once the storm has passed and then repair work carried out. While some checks will be carried out later tonight, further inspections will be needed during daylight hours, which will cause disruption to services on some routes on Tuesday morning. Customers planning to travel on Tuesday should check their journey before travelling using the ScotRail app, website and our page. ScotRail tickets dated Monday, 4 August, will be valid for travel on our services tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 August. Here is a look at the progression of severe thunderstorms across Alabama tonight (RRFS) Here are the key messages... *The line of storms will enter the northwest corner of the state around 9-10 p.m... and will move out of the southeast corner around 6-7 a.m. tomorrow. *Damaging winds are likely along the line. In some cases wind gusts could exceed 70 mph. Expect significant, potentially widespread power outages. *A few isolated tornadoes are possible within the line. After 3:00 a.m... high resolution models suggest supercell storms will form across Southeast Alabama with a much higher tornado potential. A strong tornado or two (EF-2 or higher) will be possible from 3-6 a.m. *Tonight most likely I will advise you to treat a severe thunderstorm like a tornado warning. Be in a position to hear warnings, and have a plan. Helmets for everyone; if a tree comes crashing down through your house, this could save your life. *I would not want to be in a mobile home when this line comes through. Know the location of the nearest shelter and how to get there quickly. Have transportation arranged. *Much colder air will follow the storms, and snow flurries/snow showers are likely over the northern half of the state tomorrow. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s and we expect no impact. *A freeze is likely pretty much statewide Tuesday morning with lows mostly in the 20s.
