This is what a neutral bridge asset solves. No country is required to trust the de facto USD as the bridge currency. The USD becomes a bridge currency, not the bridge currency. Same for the euro and yuan. BRICS can conduct business outside of the USD; however, should they need to settle with a U.S. institution, a European institution, or another currency bloc, neither side has to make the other’s sovereign currency the intermediary.
