Around 6,000 San Francisco educators have launched a city-wide strike, the first in nearly 50 years. The strike comes as educators and the school district failed to reach an agreement on Monday. Facing high costs and understaffing, the United Educators of San Francisco — a union which represents teachers, librarians, social workers and nurses — is demanding livable wages, fully funded healthcare, sanctuary schools, and resources for struggling families. According to those that BT has spoken to, the strike is receiving strong support from the community.

INVESTING IN OUR CHILDREN IS PRIORITY: Usha Vance was asked about her efforts to help the literacy rate of children increase, and it's something she's PASSIONATE about: "I think one way we can kind of counteract that is giving them the tools they need to be able to think critically and pursue whatever it is that they care about, but also the gift of concentration and focus in a really challenging world and I see childhood literacy is the start of all that." Our children are the FUTURE of the country, and we should be doing EVERYTHING we can to ensure that they have a foundational education that sets them up for SUCCESS!

Ontario's schools need more adults. We need more EAs and more educators in our schools to keep students safe and help them learn. Children in Grade 6 were in Kindergarten when the Ford government took office. EQAO scores are on their watch, and this government is failing our kids. That is why Ontario-Liberals are calling on the Ford government to invest $1 billion in new education funding so boards can hire the staff students rely on every day. Students should not have to pay the price for underfunding. It is time to give them the support they deserve.

In commemoration of Financial Literacy Month, I was honored to address students around the country as part of “Teach Children to Save Day”—a day dedicated to empowering young people with the skills they need to build strong financial futures. Treasury Department is pleased to be partnering with American Bankers Association to build stronger individuals, families, and communities one savings lesson at a time.
