Peaceful students are taking to the streets in Chembur, Juhu, and Shivaji Park to demand basic accountability, and Mumbai Police is behaving like a private squad of thugs. Women are being dragged on the street. Officers are stalking students at their homes and demanding live locations without any warrant. Teachers often deny permission to children to drink waters, and students are sometimes also punished for drinking water! But one school has chosen to take a different route! They have created a “water bell” in their school, and at the end of every period, a bell rings reminding all students and teachers to drink water! This has helped the school students reduce the number of times they fall sick, and has helped improve energy levels of students! I highly recommend the government to spread this “Water bell movement” across all schools in India. In fact, even private schools and colleges can introduce this “water bell” concept. If crores of Indians start drinking more water, then we can beat headaches, kidney stone problems, and dizziness experienced by students. Water bell lagao, aur bachon ko pani peeni ki aadat lagao! What have Jantar Mantar Protests achieved? It is a freedom movement for education. It is liberation. Education is now mainstream. It is THE issue. While they discussed religion and caste, students are a political class in themselves. As we sit now, the impact hasn’t stopped with a silly resignation. It expanded. As I write, there have been more than 200+ cases of students protesting for basic infrastructure - teachers, food, fans, lights, toilets etc. And many are getting resolved too. This will only fuel others to hit the streets demanding basic rights. The administration is scared. Independent journalists are fanning across the country focussing on education issues. The political class has no answers. Education is mainstream. Bureaucracy is running scared. States are running to fix school infra issues. Bar Council of India had to withdraw an anti student circular in 40 minutes. Magistrates are running to school on demand. The CJP campaign of ‘School Thik Karo’ will further expand reach and create ground level impact. These protests are not about to die. You have a cockroach in every home. You have an independent voice in every school, college - unafraid and asking questions. You have independent journalists taking charge. Mainstream media has lost the plot. A Baloch Girl speaking about the closure of girls' schools in Paroom, Panjgur. As she bravely says, their parents happily allow them for their studies, but the government has shut down the schools and not providing them with facilities for their studies. The schools are closed for years due to lack of teachers and other basic facilities. The students, mostly girls of Paroom, organized a protest demanding facilitation in schools. As per, Baloch Literacy Campaign report, there are sixteen schools which are closed in Paroom. Most of them are girls schools. We appreciate this small struggle of the students and are happy to see them raising their voice for their education. Even in many parts of Gujarat, people came out to support the students and protest peacefully No protesters tried to attack police vehicles No protesters abused Hindu gods The police allowed the protest to continue even without permits, with one condition: don’t block or disturb traffic When the protest ended, the protesters gave roses to the police as a gesture of appreciation for their kindness Protest is good for democracy, especially when students are demanding accountability But when students become puppets for someone else’s political agenda, it is no longer a student protest, it becomes a political protest Students should stay away from those people

This is Rajshai university today where students sought to hold a peaceful rally. However the #Bangladesh law enforcement authorities were having none of that. At one point, armed and plain clothes police tried to disrupt the protests, arrest five students and drag them to their vehicles. But what this extraordinary video shows is how the police have lost their authority, and how the teachers and students are not now willing to put up with these arbitrary arrests and, quite fearlessly manage to grab their fellow student back from the police. ... As I have mentioned in earlier tweets, it feels like something has changed in the country, but what is not so clear is how widespread that change is.
