CM Shivakumar defends Bidadi Township amidst opposition protests, says compensation will be more than ₹3 crore per acre. Bengaluru The proposed #BidadiTownship project has become the latest flashpoint in #Karnataka politics, with the #BJP and #JDS joining hands to stage protests against the government’s plan. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, however, has mounted a strong defense of the initiative, insisting that his administration’s compensation package for landowners is far more generous than what was offered earlier.#DKShivakumar contrasted his government’s approach with that of the previous administration. “The previous government had fixed a price of only ₹25 lakh per acre. However, our government has decided to give more than ₹3 crore per acre,” he declared, stressing that farmers stand to benefit significantly from the revised model. The opposition has accused the government of pushing through the township project at the expense of local communities, calling the land acquisition process unfair. BJP and JD(S) leaders argue that despite the higher compensation, the project threatens livelihoods and represents a large-scale land grab. The government counters that the township will bring infrastructure growth, employment opportunities, and long-term economic benefits to the region.
