BBMP can’t fix Bengaluru's roads or waterlogging but has paid ₹4.7 Cr to Altinok Consultants for a detailed project report (DPR) on an 18-km tunnel road that remains hidden. Citizens deserve transparency. BBMP must release the report immediately to ensure public accountability.

Public transport must be affordable. Cities like Singapore and Hong Kong understand this—they incentivize metro use. But after visiting and studying their models, BMRCL, under the Karnataka Congress government, proposes a 105% fare hike to repay ₹10,422 crore in loans. This goes against global best practices. Instead of raising fares, BMRCL should focus on tapping non-fare revenues. Leasing station air rights (property interest in the “space” above Metro stations) alone could generate over ₹1,000 crore annually. For instance, building above and leasing space at MG Road and Trinity stations, Bengaluru, if properly utilized, could have made the Purple Line profitable—just like BMRCL has built office space above Deepanjali Nagar station to save on rent. BMRCL should have learned from them, not the opposite.

Huskur Railway station is progressing well as part of the doubling project, promising to cut travel time from Hebbal to Electronics City. However, last-mile connectivity is crucial and must be integrated into the project. Implementing agencies must ensure it isn't neglected.
