What it’s like to receive a job offer directly from Satya Nadella. Kelsey Hightower, former Google Distinguished Engineer, on the Microsoft offer that revealed a pay tier he didn't know existed: “I got this email from Satya, the CEO of Microsoft. He wrote this nice email: 'Kelsey, heard you had a good experience with the team' - remember I did the interview at the Microsoft headquarters - “heard really good things from the team, just wanted to let you know, you're going to be respected here. We're going to support you as a team.” I'm like, damn, support as a team? Coming from the CEO? So, number one, what an honor. This is the CEO of Microsoft. He has so many more important things to be doing than to be emailing me about a role. I opened the PDF - not very often in your career does a zero get added to the equation. And so you're looking at this like, I didn't even know that they do that. We know that it happens. But the person that graduated from high school in 1999, that chose the A+ Certification didn't know that was available. Even while I was at Google having all the success. Google paid me pretty well too, but I didn't know you can add another zero still. And I'm like, wow. I showed my wife and she was the one that said you should just go interview, like put your ego to the side and let's go see what's out there, so shout out to my wife. And so I get the PDF, and I'm like, okay, this number is perfect. Honestly, I don't know what to say, but let’s just find out, is this really the only number? So I remember giving a counter: you know what, I think it should be this. The funny thing is, Microsoft countered back higher, like we're not playing around. I'm like, oh, whoa. Now I understand that I don't understand this part of the game.”

Satya Nadella says the AI industry has talked so much doom that people have stopped wanting it to succeed: "All economic opportunity will go away for knowledge workers." "White-collar jobs are gone. And then you're saying, I'm excited about building that technology." "Why would anyone want you to be successful? I mean, I don't want you to be successful. I mean, this just makes no social sense." "When you have someone in a college commencement be booed because they're saying AI, it means we have now crossed over to people who don't believe us, and rightfully so." "If you're building a data center, let's make sure that that community believes that this data center is great for them. It's for their tax base, for their community efforts, their real estate value, their schools, their water use, their electricity prices." "We can't abstractly even say... there's going to be new jobs. What are the new jobs? What are the wages of the new jobs that I can now go apply for, train myself for?" Notice who is saying this. Nadella runs one of the largest AI buildouts in the world, and he is saying in public that people have stopped believing the industry, and that they are right. And his fix is specific. Name the new jobs and the wages someone can actually train for. Make the data center pencil out for the town that hosts it, in taxes, schools, water use and electricity prices residents can check for themselves. Every one of those claims can be verified or shown false. Almost nobody building AI talks this way today. - Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella), Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, on Possible with Reid Hoffman (Reid Hoffman).

Satya Nadella says LinkedIn merged four job titles, product manager, designer, front-end engineer and back-end engineer, into one: "I'll give you at LinkedIn, we used to have product managers, we had designers, we had front-end engineers, and then we had back-end engineers and so on." "So what we did is we sort of took those first four roles and combined them. In fact, increased scope and said, they're all full-stack builders." "So at the same time, as you can imagine, if we're to build an AI product today, there's a complete new workflow, right? It starts with evals, right?" "So basically, there's this eval to science, to infrastructure." "And so evals are done by these full-stack builders and what have you and product managers in the new form, the infrastructure is built by the systems engineers at the back-end because they support the science that supports the product." "So in some sense, there's a new loop and you have to structurally change." LinkedIn has already put this into hiring. Its Associate Product Manager program is finished, and the replacement, the Associate Product Builder track, teaches code, design and product management at the same time. Evals sit at the front of that workflow rather than the end, so writing them is now part of building the product instead of a check before shipping. - Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella), Chairman and CEO of Microsoft (Microsoft), with the All-In Podcast (The All-In Podcast) at USA House, Davos 2026.
