There are thousands of Dutch words which Indonesian Bahasa (Malay) had adopted after being colonised by the Netherlands, but the Malay language had a lesser lexical influence/impact on Afrikaans. Interestingly, Afrikaans is more intelligible to Dutch speakers than vice versa.

#CapeTown was started by the Dutch East India Company, VOC, as a provision/ supply station on their route to Indonesia, which was to become their colony. And they brought Indonesians/ Malay people as slaves.
