When are you starting your load? —Most of the games best hitters start there load & get into a ready position to hit before the ball leaves the pitchers hand. —Starting your load when the pitchers hand breaks is a good cue to go off of. Every single pitcher has to do this to throw the ball. Once there hand breaks every pitchers time to plate is close in timing. Giving you a consistent time to start. —Being on time towards the opposite field gap or through the middle for fastball. Gives you a chance to do damage on both pitches. The FB & Off speed. When you get into your advantage counts & have earned your fastball. 2-0, 3-0, 3-1. You can now then shift your sights over towards the pull side gap. —Hope this helps some people! #PlayerDevelopment

To me, this is hitting. Look at his approach. Adjustability. Short. Uses the whole field. Can also drive the ball. Hits the ball where it’s pitched. Tough out. We need way more of this in our game. Imagine a line up with 6 or 7 of these dudes! And two power bats (that swing and miss more often) but hit more long balls… now that is baseball. When I teach hitting to young players, this is more of my focus. Become a great hitter first and the power comes later… when you develop your man body. How to set up the tee for a pitch down the middle, inside & outside. I see far too many athletes setting up incorrectly when doing tee work at my clinics and I see it from all ages. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have the tee in the correct spot. You can have the best swing in the world but if your contact point is off, it does you no good. For a pitch down the middle, you’ll want to make contact with the ball about even with your front foot in order to stay connected and hit for maximum power. Inside will be right outside of front foot and outside will be right inside of front foot. Letting the ball travel too deep will jam you and catching too far out front will force you to hit the ball off the end of the bat and roll over. So for those wanting to change swing mechanics so quickly for mishitting the ball, check your contact points first.

I believe it all starts the night before with a good PM routine leading to a good night of sleep. Know that a great day today started the night before. 2. There is a lot more to hitting than standing on 1 leg and trying to create some picture perfect swing! Listen to Johnny Gomes talk about all that goes into being prepared to face a certain pitcher. I personally wanted to know the velocity of his pitches and what was his OUT pitch. I hunted the fastball 99.99% of the time until 2 strikes. With 2 strikes I looked fastball middle away and adjusted to the off speed. I believe many of today’s MLB hitters are guessing based on the percentages of types of pitches that particular pitcher throws and trying to hit the ball hard in the air. I’m going to show you two pitches that encompasses the Padres offense Notice the situation bases loaded no outs. First pitch is a nasty sweeper in a 2-1 count. You would hope Manny lays off but it’s nasty and he swings out of his shoes looking to do damage. Okay fine. Now second pitch it’s a full count. It’s now time to be a team player. You would hope Manny shortens up his swing to make it easier for himself to cover whatever is coming. Nope, swings out of shoes again and whiffs on a pitch that has a 10.4% whiff rate. This is a selfish swing to me and it lacks situational awareness especially for a veteran. Then you have Manny nodding his head like yeah you got me. Brother you got yourself out. The team approach is horrible. Sometimes it looks like they just go up there without a game plan. They don’t hunt pitches where they can do damage early or when it’s two strikes they don’t have a 2 strike approach. They have one mode and that’s just to swing and to swing often. Making little to no adjustments inside the same at bat.

Today I went through every 3-2 pitch Juan Soto saw in the 2025 season. Three things stuck out: 1️⃣ He Doesn’t Expand - he has some of the best strike zone awareness of anyone in the game. When he gets to two strikes, he does not chase or expand the zone. Most players start swinging at pitcher’s pitches. He makes pitchers execute a quality pitch to get him out. 2️⃣ He Competes! -he takes great pride in being a tough out. He battles. He doesn’t give in. He finds a way to get on base. 3️⃣ His Approach - because he’s so willing to use the entire field, his two strike approach does not need to change much. He gets a long look at each pitch because he’s willing to hit the fastball to the opposite field and pull the breaking ball.

The pitcher mixes fastballs and slow balls. Your only two rules: ⚾ Slow pitch or spin? Don’t roll it over. ⚾ Fastball? Don’t pull it. Now you’re forced to recognize speed instead of guessing. You’re training your eyes, your timing, and your approach—not just your swing. This is one of my favorite two-strike drills because it teaches hitters to trust what they see instead of committing too early. A great swing is important. Knowing when to use it is what separates hitters. Train with an expert, not an influencer.

Hard preferably, yea of course, but even softer hit contact and miss hits find holes and can be tough plays for D. But Hard “right turns” and “left turns” with a K don’t do that. I am sure it may vary by area but I never heard of a law that states your car has to have a license plate on it at all times even when being parked. A group of friends took off the license plate of their car to take pictures. Some cops came by and cited them for it. I don’t think everyone knows about this law, so if I’m say waxing my car and want to take the plate off so I can get to areas around it better, an officer can come by and cite me for it? I know I don’t have to have a front plate anymore and even when I started driving years ago I never kept a front plate on it and only got warnings for it. Maybe these friends are being trivial but have you heard of this? Do you think you should get a ticket if your parked car doesn’t have a plate? Thinking about it, maybe it’s because the plate is an identifying piece of the car, so if anything happens a plate is required for identification purposes. That’s my take on this, I can’t think of any other reason.

KEEP OFF SEASON DEVELOPMENT SIMPLE Heading in to the off season soon, we’ll see a lot of players try to get better at everything and make their development more complex than it had to be. So much of development can be solved by focusing on shooting and playing. Within the playing focusing on ball handling (getting 2 feet in the paint), finishing, decisions and reads, guarding on ball and off ball. If you play with purpose and get your shooting reps up before or after you’ll put yourself in a great spot during the off season.

128mph club head speed & 190mph ball speed. If you listened to my podcast with Young-Hoo Kwon you will have heard him talk a lot about lateral and vertical motion in the swing (especially when speed is the goal). Summary (for maximizing your speed) : Shift right and up early in the backswing. Fall left and down in transition Then absolutely smash it I would have liked to see force plate data from this one. To any of the coaches / speed enthusiasts following, where can I improve for 200mph 😎😬?

Here is what actually works. Stop trying to be perfect and start adding in the good things. More meat. More eggs. More real food. That is it. Something really cool happens when you do that. The more good things you add in, the less room there is for the things you are trying to crowd out. You are not white knuckling it. You are not depriving yourself.
