A 470,000 person study found individuals that use sunscreen more frequently had substantially higher risk of multiple skin cancers — even after accounting for major confounding factors.

Benzophenone is a known carcinogen....

It is amazing to me how long it takes for the information to go mainstream. My wife and I have know this for over 15 years. I work outside, I see a dermatologist once a year to make sure everything is good. Zero sunscreen, I just cover up. No issues.

I found the study, read it, & can stay w/ certainty that he misinterpreted the data once again. The authors clearly state that in the case of sunscreen, it’s most likely from a methodological issue. Looking at their long list of limitations, I can see why. Bias after bias!

Facts.

When we gonna talk about how some sunscreen (those that contain oxybenzone) potentially cause birth defects?

We use to use Coppertone on the beaches of Miami or boating since the 60's but I noticed a huge change years ago hearing Americans talking about not even going outside without sunscreen. 😂 The sunscreen companies are getting rich.💰💰💰

Gave up on normal sunscreen decades ago. If I am going to be out all day I will wear a hat and use my own (water based vitamin C and potassium paba with ferric acid) but otherwise 1-2 hours a day of normal unfiltered sun seems a healthy choice. One of the things about many sunscreens is they are made with vegetable oil or alcohols and I am sure this is at least somewhat of a confounding factor.

I used to be embarrassed when all my friends were slathered in sunscreen and I wasn’t . I even avoided close contact of people using those aerosolized cans of sunscreen that stuff is toxic to the lungs.

because i mostly listen to quacks, conspiracy theorists, herbalists, naturopaths and independants, i have been avoiding the hysteria-marketed skincancer subscription for quite a while and i appreicate you take the time to warn others of the potential dangers🖖

If you’re a critical thinker it’s been common sense for at least the last decade. Just turn the bottle around and look up the ingredients. That’s what you’re putting in your pores/body.

Yup. A friend of mine covers himself in sunscreen and about every 2 years has to have biopsies and stuff cut off his skin. He's NEVER in the sun and works in an office.

i really liked the book "Heal Yourself with Sunlight" by author Andreas Moritz. Another source i fondly remember are old lectures of famous herbalist Dr Christopher.

That sunscreens cause cancer was shown by 2 Australian scientists in the 1990s, then was never heard of again.

People who regularly use sun screen also presumably expect to expose themselves to the sun more than people not using as much sun screen. How does the conclusion separate that added risk due to additional sun exposure?

I’m a gardener, blond, blue eyes, and I don’t wear sunscreen. I believe in subjecting oneself to the elements, just as I believe in natural immunity. 😉👍🏼🌞

They blame it on the sun which is life giving and the greatest disinfectant in the world, while it is the chemicals in the food, and the chemical storms we put on our skin which is absorbed by the body! If you’re not willing to eat it, don’t put it on your skin.

Something I noticed, fairly pale skinned guy from the northeast here. Moved to Florida 10 years ago. I don't wear sunscreen and I almost never get burned despite being out in the sun quite a bit. Always used to get burns up north when I used it Sorta makes ya go, hmmmmm

Used zinc oxide pastes for centuries, a simple physical barrier, no fancy chemicals. Skin cancer rates were a fraction of what they are today. Then 1970s hit: modern chemical sunscreens get hyper-promoted everywhere (SPF everything, “safe tanning” marketing). Now? Melanoma 5x+ higher in sunscreen-loving places like Australia/UK/US. NMSC exploding too. Sunscreen paradox or something else? I’m back on mineral zinc.

I was told by 3 different doctors that my Basal cell carcinoma was incurable. The best I could do was control the symptoms. Until i met @LillianNelsonMD here on X Ivermectin cured me. I dealt with cystic pimples for years it's been gone for 5 years now.

@NicHulscher I have heard/read elsewhere that at least part of the spike in skin cancers is also attributable to seed oils and inferior fats which respond poorly to UVB relative to grass fed beef. Any thoughts on that?

Have any tips then for how to avoid getting burnt in the sun? And don't suggest covering up, not practical at the beech.

@grok has he read the data correctly? Can you explain the sunscreen paradox to him?

What a moron. People who use sunscreen are more likely to be those at greatest risk for skin cancer - fair skin, frequency of sunbathing, number of childhood sunburns. You lied, they did not account for these confounders in regards to sunscreen use.

@MoooPapa As someone who had a piece of her nose cut off because of skin cancer: STAY OUT OF THE FUCKING SUN!

I've known for decades, look at the ingredients. It shouldn't be called suncream. It should be called a vitamin D blocker.

Where’s the link to the study?

Always read your sunscreen label! There are safer, non-toxic options available, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend using any sunscreen unless you absolutely need it — such as being at high elevations or outside during peak sun hours.

@mayhew1776 People laughed at me for using coconut oil or olive oil instead… but I stopped burning amd without clogging my pores with greasy white carcinogens

Ask yourself how this teabag produces so many reports ? Every day he posts multiple “new studies” that contradict real medicine. He must have an army of anti-scientists testing millions of people every day and typing up reports like infinite monkey’s writing Shakespeare.
