UPDATE: With only a few hours left before landfall in Luzon, colossal Typhoon Fung-wong (UwanPH) has hit a new peak intensity. Her sustained winds are now at 130 MPH (210 kph), and the sea-level pressure in her giant eye has fallen to 943 mbar, making her a CATEGORY 4 storm. This will be the strongest Typhoon to hit the Philippines since Man-yi (Pepito) in November of last year, and is coming just 5 days after Kalmaegi (Tino) ravaged Cebu Island.

Even though her sustained winds never exceeded 60 mph, and her core pressure bottomed out at a paltry 1,000 mbar, she claimed 50 lives and caused nearly $15 billion in damages after stalling out for 5 DAYS over East Texas. More than 3 feet of rainfall was dropped. In Houston alone, Allison’s swampy fiefdom of freshwater flooding inundated ~70,000 homes. "The Knowledge Is Out There" Northeast of Calgary Alberta 20251112T0430Z This timelapse is made up of 276 images shot every 3 seconds, at ISO 5000, 1.3 sec at F2.8 with a Laowa 12mm mounted on a Nikon D810A(astromod). I am shooting at 1.3 to capture the movement of the aurora, and at 3 second intervals so I don't use up my memory in my card in case the aurora goes all night. Although I have backup memory cards, I am trying to minimize the amount of images that I take, on a typical night I am shooting somewhere around 10,000 images. I am at 20 Terabytes of images this year... this particular night, I shot 15,000 images. One of the toughest decision one can make when shooting reflection aurora is how much of the reflection can you get without missing out on the auroral pillars, there's 2 choices use portrait mode or use a wider lens, I choose the latter and use a Laowa 12mm, if the aurora is going nuts I use both options with a second camera. #Aurora #Auroraborealis #northernlights

Suppose two cars are traveling on an expressway at 100 km/h with a 50-meter gap. If the front car slams on its brakes, it takes about 3.5 seconds and nearly 50 meters to stop. If the driver behind does nothing, a collision occurs in exactly 3.5 seconds. This gives the rear driver a 3.5-second window to avoid a crash. For an alert driver, 1 second is reaction time, leaving 2.5 seconds to brake and stop safely. Now, consider the same 50-meter gap, but the front car is reversing at 10 km/h. For the car approaching from behind at 100 km/h, the closing speed skyrockets to 110 km/h, slashing the time before collision to just 1.6 seconds. In reality, it is even worse: because drivers never expect a vehicle to reverse on an expressway, their brains freeze. Reaction time jumps from 1 second to 2, 3, or more. There are currently 2,420 personnel on scene, including 378 engines, 20 Water Tenders, 34 Hand Crews, 17 Dozers and 14 helicopters. VCFD is in unified command with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are in process of identifying and verifying the number of structures that have been impacted. Our thoughts are with all of members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with dry and receptive fuels that continue to challenge containment efforts. Fire activity has decreased due to a decrease in winds over the area. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. A public information hotline has been established. Affected residents can call 805-465-6650 for assistance. Evacuation orders remain in place. Residents are encouraged to visit for the most current evacuation information. An evacuation center has been setup at Padre Serra Parrish at 5205 Upland Rd in Camarillo. The video is from inside of the Ventura County Air Unit Firehawks as they perform water drops over the fire yesterday.

I just need to say it… Some of you have LOST YOUR FRIGGIN MINDS over Hurricane Milton We Do live in Sarasota County where it’s making landfall right now but do NOT live on the coast (15 miles+ inland) People have been telling us all day that we deserve to die for not leaving and to write our daughters SSN on their arms to be identified. The video to the left is the worst it has gotten. Now I want to be VERY VERY clear. If you live on the beach, are in a mobile home, or a major flood zone… Evacuation is a NECESSITY. I hope those people all got out and are safe. But I’m not joking. I’ve had family and friends telling me that ALL Florida is going to be wiped out by Milton. And to kiss my daughters goodbye tonight because we stayed. Now I mostly blame the over sensationalist media for hyping everyone up making it sound like this was going to make landfall as the most catastrophic storm in history. It literally made landfall as a Cat 3 120mph winds. Thats far from the largest. People saw that it was a Cat 5 with 200 mph winds when it was in the middle of the ocean and thought it would land at that. TikTok and random “weather people” didn’t make this any better. It’s like the whole country was watching us like NASCAR… hoping to see that fatal crash. It’s messed up.
