Sainik School Tragedy: Bail Hearing Ends in Controversy In a shocking turn of events, the bail hearing of the accused students in the Sainik School student death case ended with the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) recusing himself from giving an order. According to Tadu Nancy, the victim's sister, the Principal Magistrate abruptly left the courtroom without providing a proper reason. The JJB later passed a verdict, stating that the accused students would be placed under the custody of the Vice Principal, where the accused students will be staying separately at the school, instead of being sent to a juvenile home. This decision has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the fairness of the judicial process. The parents of the other students studying at Sainik School have expressed deep concern over the safety of their children, especially since the accused students are still in the school under the Vice Principal's custody. They have alleged that the accused students, were seen playing and eating with other students after the Principal Magistrate sent the 8 CCLs(child in conflict with law) under the custody of Vice Principal of Sainik School on 4th of November, which has further fueled their anger and frustration. The CCTV footage of the incident has revealed chilling details about the extent of the bullying and harassment that the victim suffered. According to the footage, the Class 8 students started giving punishment to Haro for 30 minutes, during which his legs were shivering and after that the Class 10 students collectively punished all the Class 7 students together, and then they punished the victim alongside with a another student and then again they punished the victim alone. The footage also shows that a Class 11 student intervened to stop the punishment, but the damage had already been done. The victim was allegedly harassed mentally and physically for three hours before the incident occurred. The family has demanded that the accused students be removed from the school and placed in a juvenile home until the case is resolved. They have also demanded that the school take strict measures to prevent bullying and ensure the safety of all students. Three more students have been implicated in the incident. Initially, it was stated that these three students were not involved, but a review of the CCTV footage has revealed that they were indeed involved in the alleged ragging and physical a result, the parents of the victim have announced that they will file a complaint against these three students as well. The next bail hearing in the case is scheduled for November 15. The parents have urged the authorities to check the backup of the CCTV footage for the past 15 days and to take action against all the students involved in the incident. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding strict action against those responsible.

Reports emerging from Òṣogbo indicate that students of Ọ̀ṣun State University (UNIOSUN), Main Campus, have allegedly been subjected to various forms of harassment, assault, and abuse by some newly recruited personnel of the Nigerian Army within the last 24 hours. According to accounts from affected students and residents, the incident reportedly occurred in hostels and residential areas located around the University community, which shares close proximity with the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo. Witnesses alleged that the recruits invaded several student hostels, physically assaulted male students, intimidated residents, and allegedly subjected some female students to degrading treatment. There were also claims of theft of personal belongings during the incident. The development has generated widespread concern among students, parents, civil society groups, and members of the public, who have condemned the alleged actions and called for urgent intervention. Student leaders and concerned stakeholders have described the reports as disturbing and capable of undermining the peaceful coexistence between the university community and security institutions operating within the State. Reports indicate that the Nigerian Army is yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on the allegations as of the time of filing this report. Given the gravity of the allegations, there is an urgent need for the Federal Government, the Chief of Army Staff, the Osun State Government, the National Human Rights Commission, security agencies, and other relevant authorities to immediately investigate the matter. The safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of students must be protected at all times, while ensuring that justice is served for any proven misconduct. A swift and impartial investigation will not only establish the facts surrounding the incident but also help restore public confidence and prevent a recurrence of such allegations in the future. 100-Level Student of FUTA found dead as police investigate Olaniyi, a student of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics, was found dead on Saturday along the North Gate area of the university. An empty bottle of a suspected toxic herbicide was reportedly recovered at the scene, raising concerns that the incident may be linked to su!c!de. The university’s Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, describing it as tragic and confirming that the student’s parents had been notified. He said university security promptly alerted the police after the discovery, while medical personnel and security operatives assisted in evacuating the body to the mortuary. Adebanjo added that FUTA is cooperating with security agencies in ongoing investigations, while counselling support is being provided to students through the Students Affairs Division. “The Students Affairs Division, FUTA, has always reiterated its readiness and willingness to provide support for students who may be battling with any issues and will continue to do so,” he said. “Students are encouraged to take advantage of the availability of such counselling and guidance when they are faced with any issues on and off campus,” he added. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has commenced into the incident. Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives found no visible signs of violence on the body at the scene. “The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and further examination while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said. He urged members of the public, particularly young people, to seek help and counselling during difficult times and avoid actions that could endanger their lives.

𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐔 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞, 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 | The students of DU law faculty were demanding postponement of semesters exams from a week but had to protest when no conciliation was received from the Law Faculty, DU. DU students allege that professors were appointed a month after the commencement of the semester due to which the syllabus is pending and exam forms have been issued 10 days before the exams starting on December 26, which have several flaws. The students’ unions of all three law faculties, CLC, LC1 and LC2, urged the deans to extend the exam dates but the deans stuck to the pre-scheduled dates. Yesterday on December 16, a protest was started by the students which continued throughout the day and it was peaceful, but the Dean deployed Delhi Police and CRPF to remove the students from the faculty, due to which there was chaos between the law students and the police and the matter became serious. The DU administration issued a notification stating that "The Date Sheet relating to LL.B. I/III/V Term December/January, 2024 Examination scheduled from 26th December, 2024 is put-on hold." However, the students remained adamant on their demand to postpone the examination schedule. Later, the police broke the entry gates of the campus and started lathicharge in which some students were injured. It is a matter of concern that law students were treated like rioters. Students have to score good marks to get admission in college, but students are treated like rioters on campus. #delhiuniversity #dusu #Lawfaculty #Lawstudents #Campuslawcentre #CLC #LC1 #LC2 #Delhi #law Bar and Bench Live Law #DelhiNews #BREAKING

Swift Troops’ Intervention Foils Attack on School, Saves Students in Kogi By: Zagazola Makama The timely intervention of security troops has prevented what could have been a major attack on students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Iluke Community, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. Eyewitnesses who spoke after the incident commended the swift response of the troops, saying their prompt arrival at the scene prevented the attackers from carrying out a mass abduction of students. The attack occurred when armed men stormed the community and started shooting where students were writing their examinations. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants attempted to seize the students and move them into a nearby bush before security personnel responded to distress calls from residents. “The situation would have been much worse if the soldiers had not arrived when they did. Their intervention saved the students and prevented what could have been a major tragedy,” one resident said. Another eyewitness described the response of the troops as timely and professional, noting that the security operatives engaged the attackers and forced them to abandon their mission. The residents said the arrival of the troops compelled the attackers to retreat from the area. All the students were reportedly safe and unharmed and safely reunited with their families following the operation. Community members also praised local security volunteers and other security agencies that supported the operation. The incident, however, left the community in mourning following the death of three residents during the attack. Security sources said one of the attackers was neutralised during the exchange of fire, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. A security operation is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in the area. Residents of Iluke Community expressed gratitude to the troops for their courage and sacrifice, describing the intervention as a decisive action that prevented a larger humanitarian crisis. They urged security agencies to sustain the ongoing operations and strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities across the area. The Kogi State Government has also commended the troops and other security personnel involved in the operation, assuring residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
