The two countries have launched a private-sector committee in Sendai to try some new ideas together. Japan’s birth rate fell to a record-low 1.14 last year, while South Korea’s was even lower at 0.80. You need around 2.1 just to keep a population stable. One of their first ideas is: get more young Japanese and Koreans studying, working and spending time in each other’s countries, basically giving more people a chance to meet and build lives. Japan did finally see a small rise in births during the first half of this year, its first in 11 years, while South Korea has now seen births rise for 24 straight months. $Taiwan News: In a sad development the government has announced that one of Taiwan’s most iconic sounds will pass into history this July as garbage trucks will stop playing Beethoven’s “Für Elise” due to copyright infringement. At a press conference Taiwan Garbage Department 台灣垃圾署spokesperson Mr Yu Ren-jie 余仁傑 said “While Für Elise is in the public domain, it appears the specific arrangement of the classic we have been playing is copyrighted.” He said the Dutch trademark agency Shietmark had contacted them and demanded royalty payments for use of the jingle. “While the Dutch graciously offered a low rate of 1 USD per day per garbage truck,” he said, “we have over 5,000 trucks across Taiwan, which would cost us NTD50 million per year.” It turns out that a Dutch tourist by the name of Johann van der Smut had uploaded a clip of the yellow garbage truck playing the tune which brought this infraction to the attention of Shietmark. When contacted about this, Mr Van der Smut was apologetic. “My fahza loves Beethoven and I just wanted to bring a smile to his face,” he cried (at least that’s what we think he said). 🌏🛬🇨🇦🏘️ : Despite the record low Canadian birth rate, Ontario is projecting a 30% population increase over the next 25 years. This means a lot more mass immigration is being planned, not less. Ontario's infrastructure is failing & there is an emergency level housing shortage. So where are all the newcomers going to live and who is going to pay for all the infrastructure needed, to take care of them?
