I won't let people rewrite history about Kobe. When LeBron and Kobe had equal teammates, Kobe stepped up and led his team to a win. LeBron shrunk, switched off Kobe, asked Prince to guard him on the last shot, then proceeded to not even hit the rim on his final shot. Kobe was being instantly doubled in a game with the best players in the world- only Kobe was getting instant doubles. Let that sink in. Mamba was one of one. That's why Coach K recruited him- Bron wasn't good enough to lead Team USA to gold. They had to go get Kobe to do that. 👊

This is dumb because without context everything sounds right. But the fact is that Kobe played with one of the worst rosters during possibly the strongest Western Conference of all time. The year LeBron went to the Finals in 2007, the entire All NBA 1st team and the entire All NBA 1st defensive team was represented by 10 PLAYERS ALL FROM THE WEST (Kobe being on both of them). That’s 10 players that were the cream of the crop of the league on both ends all in the freaking Western conference. Lebron coasted through the East always. From 2014 - 2018, the Eastern conference didn’t have ONE SINGLE ALL NBA 1st TEAM SELECTION (outside of LeBron James). All the best players played in the Western conference. Back to 2007, Kobe had an all time bad roster and yet he played the Suns team that boasted two All NBA 1st team players in Nash and Amari. Kobe’s averages in that series he lost to the Suns: 33PPG| 5Reb| 4Ast on 46%FG| 36%3PT| 92%FT When it’s LeBron it’s “He loses to tougher competition but he’s great”. When it’s Kobe it’s “He’s the mamba, what happened?” Different set of rules for Kobe always when Stephen A Smith is on the mic. The beauty of he game of basketball is a player after previous players have evolved the game further. But don’t then use that against the players that taught you the game or that you learned from. I would have loved to play against LeBron and Kobe in my prime but we’ll never be able to know that… I think it creates animosity. Kobe didn’t need all these gimmicks man. He just played hard as the best player in the sport and it motivated others to do the same. The league has bad player leadership. Kobe wouldn’t have allowed what the All Star has become. Kobe led by example and ever since he left it’s obvious that he was the LAST OF THE DAWGS from true mega/superstars in the game. Lebron and Steph don’t have this.. they Can’t produce what they don’t have. This was on display obviously in the 2013 all star where Kobe put Lebron in the corner and locked him up. Buts it’s not just the defense, it’s the tenacity and seriousness in which he approached the all star game. The activity on fighting off screens etc. This type of heart for the game is long gone. Kobe left and so did the heart of the NBA. Changing the format won’t change anything. We need new mega stars that love the game like Kobe did.

Y’all gone have a heart attack when yall realize that some of the greatest basketball minds in the world have Jordan first, then Kobe and even others before they even think about LeBron. But here’s the thing, that’s no shade. LeBron is up there. But this idea that Kobe is no where near the top when so many NBA LEGENDS say Jordan-Kobe is so close and LeBron isn’t always up there with them Jordan/Kobe in their minds. And again, THATS OK. Because there’s some coaches who believe LeBron is #1 or believe Kobe is #3 behind LeBron. But the thing is, None of the great minds think Kobe is fringe top 10. One thing I’ve always admired about Kobe, after losing in 2008, he didn’t make excuses and he didn’t look for a shortcut. Celtics had 4 All Stars. Kobe could have forced the front office to add more All Stars, or run to south beach and create a super team. He didn’t, he knew what he had was enough and knew what it will take to win. Instead he said “Let’s run it back” Ariza isn’t just the only one. The biggest impact Kobe had was on Pau. Kobe toughened up Pau, showed him what it takes to win. It’s not just “Kobe Stans” who say this, the stars say it too. Just listen to Paul Pierce, he will tell you the same. Without Kobe, Pau would be just another skilled Big! And this is no disrespect towards Pau. He will tell you himself! He truly had the blueprint. He believed the work was the answer. He trained harder, challenged his teammates, and prepared them off the court just as much as on it. That’s real leadership. Not always nice, not always soft, but honest, demanding, and built to win. Kobe understood he couldn’t win alone, so he made sure the guys next to him were ready when it mattered. That’s Mamba Mentality. Discipline. Accountability. No excuses. Raise the standard. Be better today than you were yesterday. Again, KOBE STANS WOULDN’T BE KOBE STANS, IF KOBE WASN’T WHO KOBE WAS. We witnessed something special, and non of you can change that.
