I wish they would teach something like this to seniors in high school. Financial literacy is so important whether you are earning minimum wage or millions. When you are young, a million dollars looks endless and credit cards can be treated like free money. Understanding interest, taxes, and how to save and grow money can be life changing to some people.

I firmly believe financial literacy is the foundation for the American Dream. Treasury Department is proud to continue working with the private and public sectors to put financial literacy on the map. But there is much more to do. National Financial Literacy Month helps to emphasize the importance of teaching communities how to create wealth, put money away, invest in their futures, and take steps toward reaching this dream.

I introduced The HUSTLE Act with Rep. Brendan Boyle to help student-athletes invest their NIL earnings and build long-term financial stability. Student-athletes shouldn’t have to choose between preparing for the future and focusing on the classroom. This is about making sure the opportunity they worked for actually follows them beyond the field or court. I look forward to working with Sam Acho on this issue!
