Matt Damon participated in Howard Zinn's great "The People Speak" series, and read out a great speech by Zinn about the importance of civil disobedience, which is as apt today as when he first wrote it in 1970: "I start from the supposition that the world is topsy-turvy, that things are all wrong, that the wrong people are in jail, and the wrong people are out of jail. That the wrong people are in power, and the wrong people are out of power. I start from the supposition that all we have to do is think about the state of the world today, and realize that things are all upside down. If you don't think, if you listen to TV, read scholarly things, you actually begin to think that things are not so bad. Or that just little things are wrong. But you have to get a little detached, and then come back and look at the world, and you are horrified. So we have to start from that supposition—that things are really topsy-turvy. And our topic is topsy-turvy: civil disobedience. As soon as you say the topic is civil disobedience, you are saying our problem is civil disobedience. That is not our problem…. Our problem is civil obedience. Running this page has opened my eyes to how many racists who hate white people we have living amongst us. It’s disgusting. I see on a daily basis, people in the comments banging on about slavery and colonialism. They don’t realise the luckiest day of their lives was being born in a western democracy. They have lived a life of privilege but like to be a victim. They are angry with white people moving into black countries hundreds of years ago. But perfectly fine with black people moving to white countries in the present day. They call it immigration when it’s them. They are in support of people being able to live wherever they want. Just not when it’s white people. That’s colonialism and it’s evil. They don’t realise they are everything that they hate the colonisers for. They take all the benefits of being here. But still hate us for it. They use history and things that didn’t happen to them as a scapegoat to be openly hateful towards us. In their own mind it justifies their racism so they can still hold the self righteous belief they are a good person. But when I see people like this. It restores my faith in immigration. It’s good to know that this can sometimes be the outcome. Not everyone is selfish and only care about their own race. There are plenty of people who care about us too. Plenty of people see it for what it is and stand by our side and I have nothing but respect for them. I wish everyone was like that. Thank you to this man for speaking out for us and showing common sense. Because when we say this, they call is far right racists and fascists. But in reality we are only human just like anyone else. Only we are taught to just accept this and eat shit and be happy. It’s double standards and this man is bang on it 👏👏

This is the second United States setting member of Congress that has been arrested. The United States looks more like a police state and under an authoritarian regime that demands his will all while Republicans in Congress allow it to happen because they decided to take an oath to the agenda and not to the constitution. The only people that are happy with this are people that see things through a single lens of information and only want whatever Trump is doing. It looks very much like they care more about that agenda than the actual United States, values, our citizens or our country and democracy that so many people died to protect. They are directly interrupting our ability to conduct missions and operations. I'm not gonna disparage anybody because we are trying to work within, uh, partner relationships, both government and non government entities within state and federal and county. I think people that are scared of beavers are the people that like to manage the land completely as if it's a garden. Farmers and people that breed birds for game shooting and all that kind of stuff. I mean, for them, the land is only natural when it's what they've set it out to be, to look like and to have in it. Beavers are wild creatures, they do their own thing but they’re superb for flood water management, an issue that we have to deal with, as the climate crisis continues to bite - they are also fantastic for habitat creation. An issue we have to deal with because we've lost so much of our wildlife.
