Ten developers are hoarding more than $2 billion worth of finished condos while families flip through listings wondering why they can't afford a place to live. Not anymore. Sell them within a year, or pay the tax.

If developers will be punished for building, they wont build. Then there won't be any inventory, scarcity will return and prices will rip. First he wanted to bail out the developers. Now he wants to punish them. Can't trust anything he says.

These aren’t hoarded homes. They’re leftover inventory from an inflated market after costs soared under this government. A new tax doesn’t create demand. It forces losses, risks a taxpayer backed buyout, and tells builders to stop. That’s how you get even less supply and higher prices.

June: Eby announces plan to buy unsold condos with public money and calls it "affordability." September: Eby proposes taxes on unsold condos and calls it "affordability." Three months. Exact opposite policies. Same talking point. This isn't a housing strategy. It's throwing darts at a board and hoping voters don't notice you just contradicted your

The NDP never met a problem that couldn’t be fixed with more taxes.

In the last 18 months, you fought Trump by giving away vast swaths of public lands to the corrupt native chiefs, and blocking pipelines and ports that could make Canada independent of Trump. Some fighting!

Why was this not done before you called an election? I don't see why you had to hold onto this supposed power move until calling an election. Again, just seems like you’re only doing the bare minimum to LOOK like you’re helping instead of just helping all along. Why?

The condos that don't sell aren't suitable for families and you know it. Stop pretending you care about housing affordability you have done NOTHING to make home ownership possible for even upper middle class.

This is, without a doubt, one of dumbest ideas I've heard for solving this problem. Punishing developers further is truly moronic. Maybe incentivize the buyers, give all buyers a five year tax holiday. Or get rid of rent controls and ridiculous renter protections on these buildings so ma and pa investors can buy these and rent them out. Feel free to steal these ideas.

I am pretty sure it is unconstitutional! Cannot force or punish private businesses for unsold inventory. Under his argument, we can do that for grocery too. A desperate move to find left wing extremist voters!

BC NDP Premier David Eby says developers should sell unsold condos “or pay the tax.” What he didn’t say today: his government’s parallel plan to buy unsold condos from developers at a discount was never cancelled, despite collapsing in backlash and getting disowned by his own PM in June. Read our thread to learn the facts 🧵

Here's a novel concept, how about people who can afford to buy them by $2 billion worth of condos?

Hoarding? Yes because they love having empty unsold product. That comment goes to show just how out of touch you are. Imagine what the $80 to $100M for this election could have done for families.

This is AFTER you get your Communst buddy Carney to pay out the ‘Privileged’ developers for their unsold condos. Now you’re going to tax the non-contributing developers to your campaign??!!?? You’re done.
