Most importantly, you need to have principles that deal with reality. Embrace reality, deal with it, and have those core principles. If everyone took the time to write down their principles and think about how to deal with specific situations, the world would operate a lot more effectively. I’ve been through those experiences and I wrote down my recipes. You can consider my recipes, or anyone else’s recipes, but at the end of the day, you must believe them and do what is good for you. Because if you don’t have principles, everything looks the same. In honour of my firstborn being 10 years of age on the 11th March, I have decided to release another book. This book will be a bit different, since I could not FOR THE LIFE OF ME find the original book of thoughts and poems surrounding my first album. But I searched and I scrambled. “When you then went to hug your mom and dad, it must have been an incredible emotion. It must have leveled up in a big way.” Lando: “Yeah. I mean I think by then I ran out of tears 'cause I did the whole in lap, like crying a bit, took my helmet off. I think I ran out a little bit and then when I hugged my mom, she was the first person I went to was my mom and my dad. I wouldn't be here. It's quite simple. I wouldn't be here without them. I wouldn't get to have - wouldn't have had the chance to live my dream to live an incredible life that I have. I'm such a lucky person. I know I am. And I think that's also why I understand that. I understand what a lucky person I am to have been given that opportunity to get to enjoy my life since such a young age, karting, traveling the world, doing what I do. I get to now say thank you in the biggest way possible. And I also just get to give back and it's so hard to do that. When you're in my position ‘cause you always feel like you're taking and everyone's behind you and you're the star. But I really - I don't like that aspect of it. I only like the fact that I get to come in and see everyone so happy. That's the craziest feeling in the world is knowing you can have such a big impact on everyone. And yeah, I mean to see my mom's crying. And my dad, you know, that just shows how much it means to them, how much it means to me that I get to say thank you in that kind of way.”

I’m in Brazil for the first time in 10 years, since the Rio Olympics. And tomorrow morning I won’t be contesting for the podium. The hamstring tear I suffered in Tokyo 7 months ago is still healing and I am a long way from where I was then. But I’m excited for this test, to see where my body is at. And I am grateful that World Athletics included me in their pre-race press conference knowing that and asking me instead about what Brazil gave to me 10 years ago. It’s remarkable to think how much I’ve grown and changed in the last decade, and the role my first Olympics played in that. Tomorrow morning (7am Vancouver time on CBC Gem) I’ll hit the streets of Brasilia, and I will give it everything I have. And maybe tomorrow that will be 40th place. But my words from the evening of that fateful 50km 10 years ago will ring soundly in my ear, ‘I left everything I possibly had out there and I can’t ask for anything more than that.’

Band of Brothers: I know I lot of you have served. How accurate is this? I mean this single clip covers so many aspects of military service. Valor, cowardice, frustration at being in command and enlistment. And the legends that spring from them. But that's the point, does this sort of thing actually happen or is this just one of those things that still gets talked about decades later because of how rare it all really is? If you have first hand experience with situations like this I'd love to hear it.

What's been helping you get through those dark days this year that have been so challenging? How have you found the grit to get up and go on? "I've had amazing support from so many people that travel around the world to support me or send me messages, so my fans have been the thing that have kept me going, really been the rock. Richard Fleischer on how he directs a movie: "Interviewer: How do you work once you’re on the set? Do you have a specific approach? Fleischer: When you’re a director, you’re not only dealing with the actors, but everything needs your full attention at the same time, and that’s what I do for a living: I give a hundred and ten percent of my time and energy and have thought about the things that I am working on, and hopefully, there’s a way to cope with every element you have to deal with. After coming home from the studio in the evening, I plan the next day’s work and layout a plan of action for the blocking of the scenes. I try to block them in my mind before I get to the stage, the position of the actors and where will the camera be. However, when I get to the set, I try not to let the actors know that I have already planned it, I let them feel their way around, and by making slight suggestions, it comes out the way I want it to come out. But the actors feel they have contributed to the direction of the scene, which is what I want. So I am helping them find their way, that’s one of the things. Suppose you’re working on a scene that has already been blocked, or partly shot or well-rehearsed, then I have to figure out the order of shooting: what do I shoot first, second, third… and make a list of every setup I have to make in the order of shooting, not necessarily in the order of continuity. You try to find the most economical way to shoot a picture; for instance, if you got a scene where people are making a lot of entrances and exits through a door, but they’re separated in different parts of the film, you work it out so you shoot all of those doorway scenes one after the other and you save a lot of time. You don’t have to take down the lighting and everything else. However, if it interrupts the flow, if the actors kind of get lost in the scene they’re doing, then I stop that, and I’d have to do it the other way. But mostly, it’s a matter of deciding what you want to shoot the next day and in what order." John MacArthur brilliantly explaining why we don't need to agonize over trying to understand how God's sovereignty and human responsibility work together: "People say, 'Oh, I can't understand election and I can't understand how it fits with choice.' Look, I can't understand a lot of things, and you know what it proves to me? No man wrote this Bible, because man would never have written a book with so many absolutely inexplicable mysteries. And the fact that we have those apparent paradoxes which we can't resolve is one of the greatest proofs that God wrote the Bible, because whoever wrote this has a mind beyond my mind. I'm so glad I can't understand everything in the Bible. If I could understand everything in the Bible, it would be written by someone like me, and we'd be in a lot of trouble. I want a God who knows more than I do. So you just have to live with that. When we come to a passage that talks about people choosing to believe in Christ, preach it with all your heart, and when you come to a passage that talks about them being chosen before the foundation of the world, preach it with all your heart. And when people say, 'How do you reconcile that?' Say, 'I don't have to. I just believe it.'

I love books, and I'm an avid reader, but I just have a hard time because of the way that I perceive. "I've had a great sort of - one side of me anyways - was really satisfied by art and drawing and sculpture and sort of visual expression. And I think that that started to, you know, was the thing that kind of made me feel un-frustrated. And also the way the system was designed, sort of not to support me when I was in high school at that time. "It was very difficult, you know, there was a lot of, you know, just, difficulty. My English teacher in high school was worried about what my career would be, and I'm like. He would be happy to know that I'm in the Writers Guild of America now. "But, I think that that all those things are, they're all... you can transcend all those things with perseverance and with interest and with with help. And I think that that's an important part of it. "And I just think I've had to adapt, and sort of... I have my own style of the way I write, I write all, you know, but I'm pretty prolific. And I love- I listen to tons of audio books on tape, unabridged hours and hours and hours. That's all I do when I'm driving in the car or wherever I'm doing. And it's helped me a lot. "And yeah, I mean, I just hope that anyone who is- feels trapped or frustrated by the world in general. You know, they need to just, I think that we all have like a magic spark, and you need to just find the thing that makes you, you know, inspires you and, and gets you excited and pursue it as hard as you can find your passion in the world. That's a, that's a great motivator."

🗨️| “Absolutely beautiful place. I'd spent a bit of time there on tour, but not enough time, you know, not working. Um, and I just wanted to surround myself with the kind of atmosphere and feelings that I wanted from the records. And, you know, the more you surround yourself by that, it, that those feelings are infectious completely. Um, there was a lovely kind of tempo to where we were in Costa Rica, place called Santa Teresa. It's like really kind of slow and like lovely like way of living. So the kind of tranquility that you'd hope for when making a record, it's often the other way and pressure, pressure, pressure. It was really nice to kind of, lay back on that. And in terms of the honesty on the record, I almost meant that in a slightly less literal sense. I've always been a quite a motive and honest songwriter, but I think this is the first time that I've been willing to embrace things that I was maybe a little bit scared of at first. It was really important to me post One Direction to kind of show who I was as an artist. So I resisted anything that was too close to centre. All the while forgetting that's what created me, you know, and that's the reason I'm sat in this chair. So I think it's, this record comes from a braver and more Honest standpoint. Yeah, I just, I deserve melodic songs like, Lemonade, you know, and like Palaces where in the past I might have kind of ignored melodies like that. My first book publishes today. It has nothing to do with hardcore finance or bitcoin, but everything to do with self-improvement, constant learning, and living the life you want. The book, which is titled How To Live An Extraordinary Life, is a compilation of 65 letters to my children on various life lessons I have picked up over the years.
