Tesla needs to continue to evolve their Self-Driving pricing model to increase adoption. With a product this good, sales should be going vertical. It's time to ask some hard questions about what's not working. What do you all think?

people don’t know, no one believes it, the general public, just based on conversations from an out of town trip

true

except on young professional 30 something dude at the 3rd Street Dive Bar in Louisville at 12am, he knows, he’s an investor, there is always one in the crowd

@wholemars Facts my body road with me and saw it with his own eyes. He said if I’d know that I would have never bought my truck. He asked how much for the fsd I said $100 a month. He said that’s it ! If he wasn’t already I. His truck he said he would have got a Tesla just for fsd.

@wholemars butts in seats works, will continue to work, then the paradigm shifts and its normal with Robotaxi or whatevers a in a few years, it will be just normal, and some day your kid will be like “what do you mean Roll Up the window?”

A lot of people don't want to spend 100 bucks a month on top of their car payment. If it was 40 or 50 a lot more people would sign up.

yeah

200 a month for my partner and I to have fsd. Gets pricy!

yeah

Huge challenge with this, Tesla owners are not in a narrow income range. Tesla's are owned and loved by people making < $40k per year as well as >$1 mil per year. $50 per month may not be achievable for many, while $200 a month is a drop in the bucket for others.

I *love* FSD. Been using since Summer 2021. but honestly karma could be at play. Abandoning HW3 development in 2024 left a majorly bad taste in my mouth. Doesn't matter what they 'plan' to do for HW3 buyers. The damage to the brand has been done (& many have moved on anyway)

more important to focus on getting unsupervised out first IMO. HW3 cars will get FSD 14 this summer

i would love that. i still have 2 HW3 cars with FSD (plus a Juniper w/ HW4 and a HW3 car with basic autopilot) It would help restore my faith in promises made to early buyers

Most Tesla owners don't even have HW4 or live in a country with the latest FSD. That alone is the first step. At the same time, make it basically perfect - preferably unsupervised. Most people will subscribe.

good point. making it available to everyone is step 1. still lots of work to do there

Get three months of self-driving free when you order a new Tesla: Watch on YouTube:

You should be able to buy it per drive. If you have a longer drive, buy it for that drive. Of course the price will be inflated compared to subscription pricing, but this is key.

that would be awesome

I think unsupervised FSD will be the inflection point for vertical sales.

that will definitely make it a lot more compelling

They could start by making it available to all HW3 to increase adoption

that would be big

Personally I can’t live without it

@duckduck1490 me either

Until FSD is truly unsupervised, the value is inherently limited and adoption rates will be low. It does not matter how much better it gets from here. Returns will be diminishing until owners can stop paying attention.

Flat fee is silly. A lot of people just don’t drive that often and would do it on a per use basis.

interesting point

Make it $39/mo and revenue will 4x from where it is today.

Once it achieves Unsupervised, there are a multitude of models to monetize, even personalized to each owners use case.

You’ve got a technical CEO who doesn’t believe in the power of advertising even with low factory utilization. So few people know about it.

It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. My coworker is buying one now after driving 6 minutes with me

same

it is perceived as nice to have for most people. people tend to think they are competent driver

Let’s be honest, I love Elon, but half the world hates him and refuses to buy a tesla because of it

Tesla is still the best selling EV brand in the world though, so i’m not sure I buy that

@fakebutneat It would be the best selling ev brand by a much further margin if he wasn’t polarizing. I personally know a good number of people who actively look elsewhere for their next vehicles cuz of him unfortunately.

@fakebutneat That might be true but I also know a lot of people who won’t buy any other vehicle because of him. Ultimately predictions that they would be doomed because of politics turned out to not be true.

@NextDoorNicky Look I agree w/ every move of Elon, but the world is polarized. If Elon was out of politics Tesla would easily sell at least 50% more cars…

Doesn't look like robotaxi is doing too well with safety. Seems to be a problem.... The ten times safer than a human narrative does'nt seem to be the case with them

Looking pretty good to me. No major accidents or anything so far.

Not really.. here is what grok thinks.

@wholemars How about what you think….

@wholemars I think it is ok but not quite what I was hoping. I hope they get it firgured out because I'm a big fan, just not an idealogue

It’s all about unsupervised imo.

Easy — knock down the subscription paywall! Two FSD options: 1. Pay-per-mile, capped @ $119 monthly 2. $99/mo sub #1 is the RoboTaxi business model anyways, and it perfectly aligns incentives: performance => usage => revenue Anyone can just pull their stalk and experience

Free or real cheap FSD (Supervised) to replace Autopilot then charge for FSD (Unsupervised) I imagine Unsupervised will sell like hotcakes 🥞

@Sherry97766003 The monthly subscription of $99 is too high. Tesla’s not just for the wealthy. In my block there’s at least 5 homes w/Tesla’s. Ask why they don’t have FSD & they’ll say ‘I love driving’ but in reality 4 out of 5 can’t justify the $99 a month. Too many other bills to pay.

I want FSD supervised to be $50 a month and unsupervised FSD to be $100 a month. So many people will sign up instantly

and then they’ll get hooked

HW3 needs to be $29. HW4 needs to be $49. No one is sending out their cars to work. And those who do, can buy it for $99 a month. That's literally the reason why FSD adoption is so low. There just isn't enough value when people can't take eyes off the road.

@JCChristopher Price point still too high for mass adoption and exposure. They should offer some deals and work harder on making it an insurance benefit.

Advertising is part of the problem…imo, a big part of it. Most people have no idea how much safer, more fun, and more advanced Tesla cars are. Instead, they’re full of misconceptions created by years of uncontested FUD in the media.

@Xil_llix greatest product ever marketing non existent It’s as though salesmanship is a sin within the Tesla culture

Price point. People aren’t going to pay $1,200+ a year for their car to complete a task that they’ve been doing their entire lives. In an economy where people are cutting subscriptions to save money, $100 a month is an easy one to cut or avoid all together.

@JCChristopher There are several “issues” in an adoption of FSD imo but I think the main one is price.

Could not agree more. It’s especially hard to pry $99/mo. from the hands of someone who tried multiple earlier versions that were not ready for prime time.

true

People just don’t believe it work, a lot likely due to bad publicity. When I tell people FSD is the only way I drive I am constantly getting asked if I trust it. I know how amazing it is but others are scared!

Musk. You may not agree, cause he is your lord and saviour, but it is 100% Musk. I will never buy a Tesla as long as he has anything to do with that company.

Your loss. Sorry your life sucks

Ah yes, ask for opinions and then insult the ones you don’t like. Great discussion strategy.

@wholemars Nothing to discuss with people with your way of thinking. Same as “I will never buy a Volkswagen because it has been founded by Hitler”. Makes any sense? No

@wholemars

No one knows this exists. When I talk to other people about Tesla FSD (self driving) they literally just refuse to believe the technology exists or say “yeah but did you hear about this or that” The media has scared them away more than being excited to try it. Such is the case with many.
