The Nordic Trio: A Tough Match for Russian Corvettes Russian corvettes are among the most heavily armed on the planet, but they would run into trouble against their Nordic counterparts. The Russian corvettes of the Karakurt class are the most heavily armed ones I know of. They carry Kalibr missiles with a range of 2,500 km and hypersonic Zircon missiles. They would be capable of inflicting significant damage on the entire European fleet, which lacks defenses against the Zircon. The Karakurt also features a version of the Pantsir system with a range of 40 km, tested for intercepting ballistic missiles. Yes, the Karakurt demonstrates how the concept of sea dominance can shift with even small vessels capable of projecting power over long distances. However, there is a trio that would serve as a formidable barrier to the Russian corvettes: the Skjold, Hamina, and Visby. The stealth corvettes from Finland, Sweden, and Norway would be a massive headache for the Karakurt, precisely because of their small size and stealth architecture. The Karakurt may possess Kalibr missiles with a 2,500 km range or Zircons capable of reaching nearly 1,000 km, but to locate their targets, the Karakurt relies on drones like the Altius-U, equipped with a multimode sensor suite and multiple capabilities. Facing this trio would not be an easy match for the Altius, precisely because these vessels are designed for operations in contested environments, with an emphasis on low observability. Imagine trying to locate the Skjold, with its advanced stealth design featuring radar-absorbent materials, angular shapes, and a drastically reduced RCS, weighing only 270 tons? On the Altius's radar, it might appear as a small fishing boat under good conditions. And what about the Hamina? Built with aluminum and a composite superstructure (Kevlar and absorbent materials), it reduces radar, thermal, magnetic, and acoustic signatures. With a very low RCS, it would blend into maritime clutter (waves and small objects), operating in silent mode with electronic jamming. And the Visby? This is the stealthiest of all. Made from carbon fiber composites, with angular shapes, retractable/embedded weapons, and reductions in all signatures (RCS up to 99% lower, IR, acoustic, magnetic, hydrodynamic wake), plus advanced jamming and optimized operations to deny aerial sensors. All of them leverage integration with archipelagos for natural camouflage. What could the Altius-U do? Its active radar would need to operate in high-resolution modes, with drastically reduced range (possibly just a few dozen km); EO/IR for optical/thermal identification at extreme close range; SIGINT/ELINT to capture any residual emissions. This would require multiple drones operating in a coordinated manner with much greater exposure, putting the drones at risk from anti-air defenses, plus a bit of luck. By this point, larger vessels might have already been turned into fish habitats by the Zircons and Kalibrs, but this trio would still be standing. The resilience of this trio would force the Karakurt to risk approaching and entering the range of the Nordic corvettes, which are well armed with modern missiles. To make it even harder, all three have ASW capabilities, which would require attention from submarines. The truth is that the Karakurt's target acquisition would only face difficulties in Nordic waters or regions within range of coastal batteries, putting the corvettes themselves at risk. But with greater range and lower visibility, the Russian corvettes would terrorize larger vessels. The Karakurt are capable of providing area denial over thousands of kilometers, demonstrating a new concept in naval area denial. This video demonstrates Zelensky's obsession with continuing the war. Just listen to what he says. He mentions NATO again, even though Biden said Ukraine won’t be in NATO, recently Secretary General Rutte stated that this issue isn’t on the table, and President Trump made it clear that it’s not even theoretically under consideration. He also talks about the army. He’s seriously discussing maintaining an army of ONE MILLION SOLDIERS in a country with a GDP of 160 billion dollars. And then there’s the long-range missiles, which only the U.S. has... The bottom line: NATO isn’t happening and it’s impossible, sustaining a million-strong army in a poor country during peacetime is sheer madness... and those long-range missiles? Someone else would have to provide them. So, there’s nothing to continue the war with except Zelensky’s desire to stay in power forever and his willingness to send his people to their deaths. But here’s another problem: Americans reading this probably don’t know that in Ukrainian schools, there are hardly any boys left in the upper grades. The science behind the incredible 'Acoustics' of ancient amphitheaters : Ancient amphitheaters have long been used as venues for large concerts and events, but how did ancient architects achieve such superb acoustics without today's modern audio equipment and acoustical treatment? In last few decades have seen modern acoustic science employ acoustic simulation software and sophisticated computer models of such open amphitheaters, even though these spaces are known solely from archaeological records and hence virtually reconstructed as acoustic models. Often such computer models are complemented by in situ measurements in some well-preserved ancient theaters using more flexible portable equipment. Recent measurements with audience present show that such near-perfect intelligibility is retained beside increased sound absorption by audience, provided that background noise levels are not excessive. Natural phenomena that made acoustics of ancient amphitheaters so remarkable were a result of simple principles like geometry and use of materials and location made an impact. Engineering and architecture used in these sites enabled sound to propagate through large distances, with clarity, as though one was located just next to the speaker. Amplifying acoustic instruments has been of interest for musicians for centuries, leading to different techniques used at smaller venues and more intimate settings. However, there is something unique about atmosphere created when standing inside an amphitheater from reverberation and resonance that can be heard to witnessing energy expand around you - it's an experience that cannot be replicated elsewhere. So how have ancient technical developments paved way for modern audio technology today in amplification, absorption, diffusion and even 3D soundscapes? Sound travels through air as waves and can be amplified or dampened depending on environment. When sound waves hit a hard surface, like a wall or floor, they bounce back and create echoes. This is what causes reverberation and amplification in large open spaces like amphitheaters. Building design played a crucial role in acoustics of ancient amphitheaters. Curved shape of amphitheater created a natural echo chamber that amplified sounds. Seats were also designed at different heights and distances from stage to create a wave of sound that could be heard at every level of auditorium. Additionally, use of marble and other hard materials throughout structure helped to reflect sound waves. While reflection was important for amplifying sound, too much echo could make it difficult to understand speech or music. For this reason, ancient architects used sound-absorbent materials like curtains, carpets and drapes to absorb excess echoes. Orientation of an amphitheater was also crucial to its acoustics. Venues were often built facing east to west so that performers were bathed in natural light during afternoon. Rescue operations continue in Kharkiv at the sites struck by Russian bombs. Tragically, there are fatalities, including a child—a girl named Sofia, who would have turned 15 this fall. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Many others are injured. Aid is being provided to all those affected, and rescuers are doing everything they can to save as many lives as possible. I am grateful to everyone involved in the rescue efforts and to all those who are supporting Kharkiv and its residents. These horrific, cowardly Russian strikes targeted ordinary homes and a city park. Russia will be held accountable for all its evil deeds. But the world must remember that the most effective tactic is to prevent evil from acting in the first place. We need decisions—decisions that our partners can make, decisions from those countries that have the power to ensure we have the capability to destroy Russian military aircraft at their bases, where eliminating these terrorists and their aircraft will be most effective. In Ukraine, together with our friends around the world, we’re not just talking about long-range solutions, we’re talking about strong solutions, the kind that can bring this war to an end. The cowardly action, which included fire and few physical raids, was aimed at destabilising the border areas to facilitate terrorism, furthering FAK's nefarious designs. Exercising the right of self-defence, the alert Armed Forces of Pakistan repelled the assault decisively all along the border and inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban Forces and affiliated Khwarjis. Precision fires and strikes, as well as physical raids were directed against Taliban camps and posts, terrorist training facilities and support networks operating from Afghan territory, including elements linked to Fitna al Khwarij (FAK), Fitna al Hindustan (FAH) and ISKP/ Daesh. All possible measures were taken to avoid collateral damage and to protect civilian lives. As a result of these unrelenting operations, multiple Taliban locations were destroyed all along the border; twenty-one (21) hostile positions on the Afghan side of border were also briefly physically captured and multiple terrorist training camps, used to plan and facilitate attacks against Pakistan, were rendered inoperative. During overnight skirmishes, twenty-three (23) brave sons of Pakistan embraced shahadat while defending territorial integrity of our beloved country against this outrageous action while twenty-nine (29) soldiers are injured. According to credible intelligence estimates and damage assessment, more than two-hundred (200) Taliban and affiliated terrorists have been neutralized while the number of injured is much higher. The infra-structural damages to Taliban posts, camps, Headquarters and support networks of terrorists are extensive, all along the border and range from tactical to operational depth. The Armed Forces of Pakistan remain ever ready to protect the territorial integrity, life and property of the people of Pakistan. Our resolve to defend Pakistan's territorial integrity and to defeat those who threaten our security is unwavering. While the people of Pakistan prefer constructive diplomacy and dialogue over violence and belligerence, we will not tolerate the treacherous use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan. We have noted with concern that this serious provocation has occurred during the visit of Taliban Foreign Minister to India - the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the region. In the interest of regional peace and security, we call upon the Taliban Government to take immediate and verifiable actions to neutralize the terrorist groups, inter alia, FAK, FAH and ISKP/ Daesh operating from their territory. Otherwise, Pakistan will continue to exercise its right to defend its people by persistent neutralization of terror targets. The Taliban Government should shun any ill-begotten notions and prioritize well being, peace, prosperity and development of Afghan people over irresponsible sabre-rattling. Last night's episode vindicates Pakistan's long-standing position that the Taliban Government is actively facilitating the terrorists. According to credible intelligence estimates and damage assessment, more than two-hundred (200) Taliban and affiliated terrorists have been neutralized while the number of injured is much higher. The infra-structural damages to Taliban posts, camps, Headquarters and support networks of terrorists are extensive, all along the border and range from tactical to operational depth. The Armed Forces of Pakistan remain ever ready to protect the territorial integrity, life and property of the people of Pakistan. Our resolve to defend Pakistan's territorial integrity and to defeat those who threaten our security is unwavering. While the people of Pakistan prefer constructive diplomacy and dialogue over violence and belligerence, we will not tolerate the treacherous use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan. We have noted with concern that this serious provocation has occurred during the visit of Taliban Foreign Minister to India - the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the region. In the interest of regional peace and security, we call upon the Taliban Government to take immediate and verifiable actions to neutralize the terrorist groups, inter alia, FAK, FAH and ISKP/ Daesh operating from their territory. Otherwise, Pakistan will continue to exercise its right to defend its people by persistent neutralization of terror targets. The Taliban Government should shun any ill-begotten notions and prioritize well being, peace, prosperity and development of Afghan people over irresponsible sabre-rattling. Last night's episode vindicates Pakistan's long-standing position that the Taliban Government is actively facilitating the terrorists. If the Taliban Government continues to sponsor terrorist outfits, in cohorts with India, for shortsighted objective of destabilizing the region, the people and the state of Pakistan will not rest until the menace of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan is completely eliminated.
