That's actually a lot smarter than how I would have done it. I would have used a sawzall but the glede's can hurt people's (and dogs) eyes. Good Job!

Opened it too much. Just open a couple of inches and lift the dog. The. use the jaws to close the bars back up to their original position.

Seriously, seems like a bit much for the job. The two guys could have very easily bent the bars enough to get the dog out, spent less than half the time and not had to mess with a cumbersome machine that was overkill for the job. Work smart not hard.
