Thank you to Mikhail Gorbachev for helping fact check Tucker here. This whole interview was surprisingly insightful for revealing the central conflict in our world today. People like Tucker don’t hide it anymore. It’s between those who support a better rules-based world of nation states and those, like Tucker,...

A small pearl in this giant heap of trash is that Carlson thinks the fake "promise" on NATO (1990) was AFTER Budapest memorandum (1994). There are 2 ways a Western pundit can express russian PoV: being dumb as fuck, and being paid by russia. Impressively, Carlson is both.

Congrats to Carlson for making me think Jacob Rees-Mogg is actually a decent politician.

This is the first time I've actually admired Jacob Rees Mogg. Good on him for pushing back firmly against this apologist for Russian aggression.

Excellent take and well made point. Rare to find that on xitter these days. Just bots and simpletons arguing that we’d all be better off somehow under the Nazis or some random jumped up dictator who goes on a land grab. Thinking somehow their lives would their own still.

For once I agree with the Minister for the 18th century. When Russia invaded Crimea in 2014 Obama sat on his hands - the west did nothing…Putin saw it as weakness. Now we are paying the price of that collective paralysis. Appeasement has never worked.

I listened to the entire episode and what I was surprised by was how Jacob didn’t call out tucker when he kept repeating that the US and the UK are waging a war on Russia. He’s so obviously trying to shift the blame and make the aggressor the victim. I hate Tucker Carlson

I would like to remind you of several interesting factors about how Putin and Russia’s rhetoric about NATO has changed, as well as about Ukraine’s accession to NATO. In 2002, in Rome, when asked by a journalist about how Ukraine’s accession to NATO would affect relations between Russia and Ukraine, Putin replied that Ukraine is a sovereign state. And she herself has the right to freely choose her future, including the future of her security. And that Russia is not against if Ukraine and the Alliance decide that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. Now these liars are using NATO expansion as one of the reasons for their invasion. And this despite the fact that Ukraine has never been a member of this military bloc, and there were no plans to admit it there in the near future. And we all understand that all these reasons for the invasion are manipulation and lies in order to justify their aggression, terror and attempt to occupy Ukraine. Regarding the second part of the video, Putin says that NATO expansion is unacceptable in 2022. Some time later, when he is asked about Finland and Sweden joining NATO. He says he doesn't mind. NATO is the Defense Alliance. Even Article 5 of NATO implies collective security in the event of an attack on one of the Alliance countries. But this in no way obliges all NATO members to fight for a country that is itself an aggressor. Even if he is a member of NATO. Therefore, Putin’s manipulations that if Ukraine had joined NATO, it would have attacked Russia and started a war between NATO and Russia is a complete lie. Article 5 does not oblige one to fight for a side that itself is the aggressor. But only to protect a NATO member from attack and invasion by other countries. Against the backdrop of all this, all these fairy tales and Russian propaganda that Ukraine wanted to attack Russia is a lie. (I remind you that until 2014 Ukraine was not a member of NATO and there were no plans to admit it there, at least in the near future). And if Ukraine wanted to attack, why did it give up nuclear weapons? Why didn’t she carry out a massive militarization of the country, but, on the contrary, reduced the army? Why now, when the war is already going on, does Ukraine not enter Russian territory with its troops? After all, propaganda says that it was Ukraine that wanted to attack.

Russia and the Trump administration are lying about the war in Ukraine. Their latest recycled claim is that 'NATO provoked the war in Ukraine.' This silly narrative is usually spread by Russians, but recently they were joined in by the richest man in the world, Elon Musk. This claim stems from a statement made by American Secretary of State James A. Baker to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990, suggesting that NATO would move "not one inch eastward" if Russia accepted Germany's unification. However, this assurance was only about Germany and was not formalized in any binding agreement. Even Gorbachev himself said that this promise was never made. Unlike the Budapest Memorandum from 1994, where Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees from the US, the UK, and Russia - guarantees that Russia blatantly violated by invading Ukraine in 2014. NATO isn’t some evil empire forcing countries to join. Nations like Poland, Estonia, and Lithuania chose to join NATO - because history showed them what happens when they don’t have protection. Russia wasn’t ‘provoked’ - these countries were just protecting themselves from Russian imperialism. And if anything, Russia’s the one driving countries toward NATO. Their invasion in Ukraine made Finland and Sweden ditch neutrality and run straight to NATO. Again, who invaded who? And which NATO countries have been invaded by Russia? Today, top US officials are spreading this exact lie about NATO provoking Russia. Elon Musk is now completely fixated on the US leaving NATO, pushing old falsehoods that were debunked long ago. He'll probably post around 300 times about this topic in the next week or so. And these same lies may soon be echoed by President Trump. And speaking of verbal statements, here’s Putin himself, in a 2008 interview, saying that Crimea is Ukraine.

👊🏼An important reminder, many seem to be “conveniently” forgetting. 👇🏼 The Budapest Memorandum, was given as “security guarantees” to Ukraine in 1994, for which Ukraine gave up a variety of weapons, including their nuclear arsenal, (which was the third-largest nuclear arsenal in the world) & dozens of jets. For that, Ukraine was given “security guarantees”, assurances that were to secure Ukrainian sovereignty, and the independence of Ukraine. Security assurances without enforcement are simply words on paper, another “pinky promise”. Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for written promises. Promises that means absolutely nothing to the aggressors, and clearly is not enforced by the allies when red lines are crossed. Ukraine has all reason to be skeptical to such security guarantees, because they are the ones who have had to fight alone, again & again, against the same aggressor, while the enforcers of the guarantees did absolutely nothing to assist and, again & again, completely ignored russias dishonesty, crimes, violations and cruelty. To those who still don’t understand: how unjust, and frankly, utterly tone-deaf, it is to ask the victims of this war, those under constant attack and bombardment, to make compromises in exchange for something they have already learned cannot be relied upon, while nothing is demanded of the actual aggressor — whose violations and crimes are still ignored and go unpunished, with zero consequences — I hope this helps you understand that: Justice cannot begin by asking the victim to surrender! Sovereignty is not a bargaining chip. And more than anything, I hope this helps you understand why Ukraine will never again mistake assurances for protection. Ukraine shall not disarm itself twice! Stop asking the people defending their nation to; give in & give up, when that is exactly what we should be pressuring & demanding of the aggressors!
