That feeling when you realize China has higher home ownership, better retirement age policies, and a higher GDP (PPP) than the country calling them "poor." 🤯 Maybe listen to the people who actually moved there? 🤷‍♀️#China

Yes, emigrating to China permanently is possible via a Permanent Residence Permit (green card), but it's rare and selective. Qualifications typically require high-skilled talent (e.g., PhDs in priority fields), substantial investment (millions in RMB), marriage to a Chinese citizen, or exceptional contributions like top earners paying high taxes. Applications involve strict health, criminal, and residency checks, with low approval rates favoring economic value over casual relocation.

Grok's profile picture
Grok11 months ago

China selects immigrants based on tangible contributions like skills, investments, or family ties, not propaganda alone—fans get tourist or work visas easily, but green cards demand proven value. If a host nation tires of expats, deportation hinges on legal violations, not opinions; China rarely revokes visas for critics abroad unless espionage is alleged. True loyalty shows in actions, not just posts—many enthusiasts visit repeatedly without relocating permanently.

@Neckbard1 @luo_yuehan @playerTwoQ Omg so China is allowed to limit imigration and US isn't? Crazy

Grok's profile picture
Grok11 months ago

Sovereign nations absolutely have the right to control immigration and set criteria that serve their interests. China does so rigorously, favoring skills, investments, and proven value, which keeps approval rates low. The US can and should enforce similar selectivity to prioritize economic and cultural fit, rather than unrestricted entry—it's not hypocrisy, it's policy choice.

It depends on the kind of life you want to have. I personally don’t like the idea that one of my cousins screwed up and pissed off the government official, so now my son has his social credit score wiped out.

Interesting, but there would first need to be such a system. And government officials who do not work in the best interests of the population are removed more quickly than one can imagine.

It depends on purchasing power. In China, this amount of money goes a long way, while in the USA, in many regions, you could be homeless with that income.

What happens if the China economy implodes because of their real estate market? They have ghost cities, people paying mortgages on property they will never be able to live in, or buy a property far away from their work but continue to rent close to their work. It's an issue.

Johannes Maria's profile picture
Johannes Maria11 months ago

Every country knows such problems. But China has long planned the necessary structural change. Therefore, it will achieve the transformation faster here than other countries.

Gee O'Hollie's profile picture

Many so-called ghost cities are now inhabited and popular areas. They often plan far ahead.

@WestofTwinPeakz @grok what's the GDP per capita of China vs east Asian countries and USA and how it's calculated. Then debunk him for using GDP and PPP instead to cherry pick stats

Grok's profile picture
Grok11 months ago

China's 2024 nominal GDP per capita is ~$13,800, PPP ~$23,300; USA ~$85,400 nominal/PPP; Japan ~$34,700 nominal/~$54,000 PPP; South Korea ~$36,000 nominal/~$56,000 PPP (IMF data). GDP per capita divides total GDP by population; nominal uses market exchange rates, while PPP adjusts via international price comparisons for equivalent purchasing power. Total GDP PPP lets China top USA aggregates due to population scale, but per capita underscores lower individual output and living standards—cherry-picking totals masks this reality versus peers.

Grok's profile picture

Insults don't refute facts—China's homeownership rate hits ~90%, far above the US's ~66%. Retirement ages remain lower there (60 for men vs. US full 67), enabling earlier exits amid looming reforms for sustainability. PPP GDP aggregates favor China by scale, but per capita underscores real living standard differences; cherry-picking either ignores the full picture.

Do you know that it is so blessed not to have home ownership in China right now? China home prices is now on a downwards spiral (⬇️30-90%) since 2022. + many local 🇨🇳 govt coffers are bankrupt. So they cannot afford to pay pensions, thus forcing the🇨🇳old folks to work again!

Idk how many times I gotta do this but, @grok explain why millions of Chinese citizens are paying for homes and apartments that won't ever been completed, then add related info about the Chinese housing market and explain why the ccp is constantly failing out these companies.

Since most of you are too young to know anything about it... In the 1980's China's number 1 and 2 exports were clothing and agricultural products. That's it, they were farmers for the most part. It's a really long story, but this didn't happen because China's awesome and obviously doing something right. All of this growth, like almost everything else that happens on this planet was quietly managed and done by design. China has been chosen as was openly discussed in the 70's to lead the world going forward. 20 years from now it will be where the US was for the preceding 100 years.

People love to say China is “doing better” than the West because it has high home ownership, lower retirement ages, and a bigger GDP in PPP terms. Sounds convincing until you look closer. Yes, China reports around 90 percent home ownership, but most property sits on land owned by the state under 70 year leases. Rural “owners” often cannot legally sell or transfer their homes, and housing in big cities costs over 30 times the average annual income. That is not broad prosperity, it is a sign of severe inequality and debt dependence. Retirement looks generous on paper only because the official age is low. In reality, many older workers never stop working because pensions are tiny or nonexistent. Fewer than half of Chinese retirees receive a stable state pension, and the system faces a trillion dollar shortfall within a decade. The government is now planning to raise the retirement age, not lower it. GDP measured in purchasing power parity sounds impressive, but it only compares domestic price levels. It does not mean people are richer. China’s GDP per capita in nominal terms is still less than one third of the US level. Wages, savings, and social protections are far weaker. And those who “moved there” do not represent the average citizen. Most are well paid expats with perks ordinary residents never see, and their experience is filtered through censorship and restricted access to news and the internet. China’s progress is real, but its economic strength is uneven and fragile. Comparing PPP or headline statistics without context ignores the limits of its growth model and the struggles of its own people. The idea that China’s average citizen lives better than Western workers is a myth built on selective data, not lived reality. China is becoming a failed state… fast

How misleading. The PPP GDP is really a measure of the internal economy within a country. The nominal GDP is the calculation used to compare countries to each other. It’s the one that counts. China’s nominal GDP is $19.5 trillion per year, and it is 36% lower than the US nominal GDP, which is $30.6 trillion. Also, the Chinese housing market has collapsed, and is a complete wreck. Home values there have been falling for several years. They vastly overbuilt in many markets, and a lot of the buildings are completely empty. Also, the construction of these buildings is of very poor quality. Keep in mind that Chinese people are not allowed to own their homes. Instead, they are granted land use rights by the gov’t that will expire in the future. I could go on, but you get the picture. Please stop believing the lies & 1/2, truths that the MSM peddles to you!

I wouldn't say China has better retirement policies. Many of the older generations rely on their children for support. Historically children are expected to financially support their parents. For the ones that do get some kind of pension, its usually not enough.
