This woman called for an Uber so that she could go and visit her friend, when the Uber showed up, it wasn’t the one in the picture on the app, but it can’t be a coincidence that it was this one that showed up. A moment before it showed up, a man walked by, and seemed to circle her, once the fake Uber showed up, the man who circled her tried to force her into the car, she managed to fight them off and got away. Could the actual Uber that she was assigned to in the app have been involved in this, how else would could this have happened?

Uber went from country to country expanding its operations by offering incentives to drivers in every market they entered. The deal was simple: if you picked up a passenger from the airport and completed the ride, Uber would give you a bonus worth twice the normal fare. It worked in most countries, but in Nigeria, drivers found a way to game the system. They signed up for Uber Bookings, then booked themselves, drove to the airport without picking up any passengers, and still collected the bonuses. I feel terrible for some of these Uber drivers. This is why you can't get an Uber in hood. You get people that act like this and put this Uber driver though all this stress and drama. Credit to this Uber driver for not backing down. No surprise that immediately the threat of harm or car jacking comes into play. But the Uber driver was sharp enough to remind him that all of his personal information has already been shared with Uber when he opened his account. Getting that info to the police would be a snap. Sure mad the thug think twice about doing anything.

Two ladies call an Uber to pick them up for a ride. As they get settled in to the Uber, they ask the driver to turn the air conditioner on. The driver refuses and tells the women that if they had wanted A/C then they should have paid for an Uber comfort. The women continue to argue with the driver telling him all cars have an A/C and they are simply asking for him to turn it on. He still refuses and said that he does not use the A/C on regular standard fares because it burns his gas faster. *side note: This is NOT Uber’s policy, just the man being cheap. According to Uber, A/C is required on every ride. Would you ask to get out of the car immediately or would you complete your ride? Would you contact Uber to report this driver or just give him a bad rating?

The company says its model means lower costs for riders and higher pay for drivers. Throo launched in the city in June and says it's already signed on 53,000 drivers, but it still has a long way to go. The Taxi and Limousine Commission says the app logged just over 2,500 rides in June compared to the 20 million rides Uber and Lyft did that same month.

Uber at the time was only black cars. They didn't allow anyone to just hop on the network. You had to be registered as a limo driver. You'd have an Escalade, and someone would book you as a driver for a wedding or event. Uber’s app just digitized those bookings. Then Lyft figured out how to allow people to just show up with a Prius or a Toyota Camry or whatever. During launch week in San Francisco, Lyft put a giant, whimsical pink mustache on the front of every car. You were encouraged to sit in the front seat because the driver was supposed to be your friend. They would ask you to fist bump the driver. It wasn't professionalized at all yet. It was very much a two-sided marketplace. You could make a lot of money as a driver. There was no margin compression yet. It was like free money everywhere for everyone. It was a capital war. Lyft raised a ton of money, came into the market with a disruptively cheap product, and wound up delivering a really fun experience. Day 3. Finished 5 Tesla Robotaxi rides, 4 Waymo rides, and 1 Uber ride. (See 39-minute edited video below.) Uber is in a tough situation. Classic innovators dilemma. Autonomous ride-hailing clearly is the future, but if Uber invites Waymo then that's working against their human drivers which will hurt Uber's recruiting ability (which they need to keep density especially in suburban areas). But if they don't welcome Waymo, then Uber is toast because people want cheaper/autonomous ride-hailing. Also, if Uber welcomes Waymo and Waymo cars increase then Waymo can just bypass Uber with their own Waymo app. Uber's only "hope" would be if multiple autonomous driving companies come online soon and Uber becomes the ride-hailing marketplace for them. But I think this is unlikely. Autonomous driving is just a really hard problem to solve, and with data and network effects. I think it's a winner-takes-most market. We'll see. But the more I take Tesla's Robotaxi, the more I think it's smoother and better than Waymo. And the more I take Waymo, the more I get pessimistic about Uber's long-term future.

The Ministry of Justice proposed the change after courts repeatedly ruled that drifting wasn't technically illegal because the law didn't explicitly mention it. The turning point was a 2013 Kyoto crash where an 18-year-old's drift maneuver injured five elementary school kids, yet courts said his speed wasn't "high enough" to count as dangerous driving, reports Japan Inside.
